One of the most densely populated boroughs in London, Islington Borough Council is responsible for over 206,000 inner city residents, dealing with both proactive and reactive communication enquiries on a daily basis.
Transparency and communicating the correct message to each of their stakeholders is key to the council, as they put fairness at the heart of their work.
Announcing corporate change, community events, campaigns, budget news, new initiatives, granting filming permission and community projects – all of which have to be managed quickly – are only some of the tasks that the busy communications and marketing functions attend to.
With resources constantly being cut, the decision was made to seek a customised software solution to enable the busy communications team to present ‘packaged’ stories for both consumers and the media.
Vuelio worked with Islington Council to design and deliver a branded online media centre, integrating seamlessly with the council’s own website. This dedicated news area enables traditional press releases, multimedia and social media content to be easily managed in one place.
The council integrated their Vuelio media database and news distribution tool with their online media centre. As a result, the communications team is now able to save time and resources by using a single platform to publish their announcements.
Working with Vuelio, we’ve created an online media centre that is quick and easy to publish to, and reflects Islington Council’s corporate identity. The site hosts news releases and associated images in a format that’s easy to search, and simple to share via social media.
It’s given us the ability to share news and information online far more quickly than we could before, which is a huge advantage. Plus, the team at Vuelio were responsive to our needs and very professional to work with.
Sian Williams, Deputy Head of Strategy and Communications (Media and Corporate), Islington Borough Council
The online media centre also allowed the council to analyse the popularity of different types of content on social and traditional channels, which provided crucial insight into what type of content works best.
Islington Council is only one example of an organisation actively using an online media centre to deliver their news. But as the demand for more accessible content continues to rise, organisations are recognising the need to streamline their communications and make it easy for everyone to access their content.
