{"id":101602,"date":"2017-03-31T09:58:18","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T09:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/?p=101602"},"modified":"2017-03-31T09:58:18","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T09:58:18","slug":"daily-telegraph-outsources-subs-to-yorkshire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/daily-telegraph-outsources-subs-to-yorkshire\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Telegraph outsources subs to Yorkshire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>The Daily and Sunday Telegraph are to cut a number of production jobs at its London base and outsource sub-editing duties to Press Association staff at their HQ in Howden, Yorkshire.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Press reports <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressgazette.co.uk\/telegraph-titles-to-outsource-sub-editing-to-press-association-with-20-journalists-believed-at-risk-of-redundancy\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u>suggest<\/u><\/a>\u00a0upwards of 20 editorial jobs will be lost as a result of the move.\u00a0A spokesperson for The Telegraph Media Group told journalists that the decision was part of the publisher\u2019s strategy to concentrate their resources exclusively into content production.<\/p>\n<p>They said: \u201cWe have entered into an agreement with the Press Association to take over the production of some of the Telegraph\u2019s print pages; they will also replace some of the work done for the past seven years by another third party supplier, Pagemasters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will result in some roles at the Telegraph\u2019s offices in London being carried out at a dedicated Telegraph production unit at the PA\u2019s offices in Howden, Yorkshire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Telegraph will continue to champion quality journalism, build a strong culture of excellence and innovation and look to invest further in our target growth areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the proposed redundancies, Laura Davison, NUJ national organiser, said: \u201cThis news will come as another body blow to Telegraph staff \u2013 many of those at risk will be long serving people who live and breathe the paper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMembers will want to know why the management is prepared to take the risk of outsourcing subbing when other companies have tried it and the track record is one of abject failure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also concerning what affect the cuts will have on the on digital operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSubs work across print and digital and their contribution is essential to the papers efforts in this regard. We will use the consultation process to urge the paper to reconsider and keep jobs in house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Telegraph is not the first national newspaper brand to outsource subbing to Howden.
