{"id":102909,"date":"2017-05-04T10:00:44","date_gmt":"2017-05-04T10:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/?p=102909"},"modified":"2017-05-04T10:00:44","modified_gmt":"2017-05-04T10:00:44","slug":"facebook-exploits-insecure-children-to-sell-ads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/facebook-exploits-insecure-children-to-sell-ads\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook exploits \u201cinsecure\u201d children to sell ads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Facebook\u2019s algorithms are used to target \u201cinsecure\u201d children as young as 14 and may be used to sell highly targeted advertising according to a recent report in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/business\/media\/digital\/facebook-targets-insecure-young-people-to-sell-ads\/news-story\/a89949ad016eee7d7a61c3c30c909fa6\" target=\"_blank\"><u>The Australian<\/u><\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the report, journalists have seen a 23-page document from the social network explaining how the social network can identify \u201cmoments when young people need a confidence boost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The document included information about how Facebook could monitor activities on their network (including posts, images and interactions) and highlight engagements that suggest when children are felling \u201cstressed\u201d, \u201cdefeated\u201d, \u201coverwhelmed\u201d, \u201canxious\u201d, \u201cnervous\u201d, \u201cstupid\u201d, \u201csilly\u201d, \u201cuseless\u201d, and a \u201cfailure\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The document goes into incredible detail about how children engage with the social network, stating: \u201cAnticipatory emotions are more likely to be expressed early in the week, while reflective emotions increase on the weekend,\u201d the document discloses. \u201cMonday-Thursday is about building confidence; the weekend is for broadcasting achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Facebook Australia is currently looking into their \u201coversight\u201d and has issued an apology which states: \u201cWe have opened an investigation to understand the process failure and improve our oversight.
