{"id":103782,"date":"2017-06-01T12:56:37","date_gmt":"2017-06-01T12:56:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/?p=103782"},"modified":"2017-06-01T12:57:43","modified_gmt":"2017-06-01T12:57:43","slug":"a-bright-future-in-magazine-publishing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/a-bright-future-in-magazine-publishing\/","title":{"rendered":"A bright future in magazine publishing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Magazine publisher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.futureplc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Future<\/a> has reported a staggering 375% year-on-year increase in profits, with a cool \u00a33.8 million profit generated in the six months to March 31.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Revenues have climbed by 35% to $41 million with online accounting for a tidy \u00a34 million (a rise of 72%). Events have also contributed significantly to the fortunes of the magazine publisher by bringing in \u00a33 million.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the publisher\u2019s success is being attributed to a series of high-profile acquisitions. In October or last year, Future acquired the parent company of Imagine Publishing \u2013 bringing 30 titles under the Future roof.<\/p>\n<p>In January, the company then acquired a number of music magazines (including the popular Classic Rock and Metal Hammer titles) following the collapse of Team Rock.<\/p>\n<p>These acquisitions have helped the publisher increase their subscription revenues to \u00a325 million.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressgazette.co.uk\/future-reports-375-per-cent-year-on-year-increase-in-operating-profit-to-3-8m\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u>Speaking to journalists<\/u><\/a>, Zillah Byng-Thorne, Future\u2019s chief executive, said: \u201cWe have delivered another strong performance with substantial increases in both revenue and profitability, driven by organic growth and acquisition. We are seeing clear benefits from our operational gearing and we continue to focus on cash conversion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur strategy to build a global scalable platform business for specialist media with data at its heart is gaining real momentum as we continue to diversify our revenue streams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe quality of our content \u2013 as a trusted destination for consumers and for our customers \u2013 allied with our market-leading and global super brands have driven further significant online audience growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It would appear that Future is getting everything right at a time when so many other publishers are getting everything wrong.<\/p>\n<p>They are finding efficiencies in scale, getting deep into their data and making it work for them by exploring new commercial ventures.<\/p>\n<p>The Future at Future looks bright.
