{"id":104883,"date":"2017-07-06T13:06:31","date_gmt":"2017-07-06T13:06:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/?p=104883"},"modified":"2017-07-06T13:06:31","modified_gmt":"2017-07-06T13:06:31","slug":"hyperlocals-bid-for-bbc-cash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/hyperlocals-bid-for-bbc-cash\/","title":{"rendered":"Hyperlocals Bid for BBC Cash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Fifteen hyperlocal newspapers have been given the green light to bid for BBC cash to employ a \u2018local democracy\u2019 reporter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The scheme, which will give local newspapers the opportunity to tap into an \u00a38 million fund and pay the wages of 150 journalists, is designed to enable local and hyperlocal titles to continue reporting on issues relating to local democracy such as council meetings and the workings of other public bodies.<\/p>\n<p>Content produced by the reporters will be shared with the BBC and participating newspapers will also have access to BBC content.<\/p>\n<p>The 15 hyperlocal titles come from all corners of the UK and include print-only and online-only titles.<\/p>\n<p>Keith Magnum, editor of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hackneycitizen.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Hackney Citizen<\/em><\/a> who will benefit from the scheme,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.holdthefrontpage.co.uk\/2017\/news\/fifteen-hyperlocals-set-to-bid-for-local-democracy-reporters\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u>told journalists<\/u><\/a>: \u2018Holding local councils to account is as important as it\u2019s ever been.
