With the state of the current publishing industry, you might think it wise to decline such an opportunity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, one businessman believes there is still very much a future in newspaper publishing and is eagerly on the hunt for new acquisitions.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Masters saved Cornwall\u2019s 200-year-old Sunday Independent title after it published its \u2018final\u2019 edition in April.<\/p>\n<p>With a little debt-restructuring and a 20p increase in price, Masters <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressgazette.co.uk\/new-sunday-independent-owner-looks-to-buy-up-more-titles-to-offer-complete-news-coverage-for-west-country\/\">reckons<\/a> the paper is now \u2018basically running at a profit\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, since the businessman took over the title, its circulation has risen by four percent.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Press Gazette, Masters said: \u2018It isn\u2019t going to stop here\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Masters believes the future is very much in newsprint stating: \u2018If we are selling piles of papers we can turn a loss-making paper into profit. It\u2019s all about getting those sales up.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u2018Investment in newsprint is what is going to bring in the readers.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Suggesting the problem with the newspaper industry has more to do with the publishers\u2019 businesses than the titles themselves, Masters said: \u2018You can\u2019t keep cutting things. The [business] model has been to cut staff, but it just doesn\u2019t work. We have got to find out why papers aren\u2019t selling and react to it and go for it.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Highlighting the need for agility and a fresh perspective in the publishing industry, Masters said: \u2018We are nimble and we are coming in fresh. We have got the titles, we have got rid of their massive overheads and we can be quick thinking and moving on our feet, which is great.
