{"id":106561,"date":"2017-09-01T08:54:58","date_gmt":"2017-09-01T08:54:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/?p=106561"},"modified":"2017-09-06T10:49:50","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T10:49:50","slug":"the-guardian-launches-us-non-profit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/the-guardian-launches-us-non-profit\/","title":{"rendered":"The Guardian Launches US Non-Profit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The <em>Guardian<\/em> has launched a US-based non-profit organisation in an attempt to support quality independent journalism.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Its website, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/theguardian.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">theguardian.org<\/a><\/u> states that its mission is to advance and inform public discourse and citizen participation around the most pressing issues of our time through the support of independent journalism and journalistic projects at the <em>Guardian<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The new organisation will raise funds from individuals and foundations and direct them towards projects that advance public discourse and citizen participation around issues such as climate change, human rights, global development and inequality.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian Media Group states that the non-profit has already raised more than $1 million in grants, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Skoll Foundation funding for a\u00a0solutions-oriented series on climate change in America<\/li>\n<li>Support from Humanity United to allow the <em>Guardian<\/em> to continue its in-depth look at\u00a0modern day slavery<\/li>\n<li>A grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation to support compelling journalism on the subject of early childhood development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <em>Guardian<\/em> has a long history of partnering with \u2018like-minded philanthropic organizations\u2019 and already counts the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ford Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation as longstanding philanthropic partners.<\/p>\n<p>The project is headed up by Rachel White who is also the <em>Guardian<\/em>\u2019s global EVP of philanthropic and strategic partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the launch of the new organisation, White said: \u2018The connection between powerful story-telling and social cause has never been more vital. Across the past six years, philanthropy has played an increasingly significant role in supporting <em>Guardian<\/em> journalism on issues that critically inform the public&#8211;climate change, inequality, women\u2019s rights, and more.
