{"id":106716,"date":"2017-09-04T09:04:33","date_gmt":"2017-09-04T09:04:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/?p=106716"},"modified":"2017-09-04T09:04:33","modified_gmt":"2017-09-04T09:04:33","slug":"back-to-work-after-silly-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/back-to-work-after-silly-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Back to Work after Silly Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>September is a good month for PR \u2013 it\u2019s a time to get back to work and put the \u2018dog days of summer\u2019 well and truly behind us.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a good thing because August really is a funny old month for PR professionals. With the whole world on holiday and many clients\u2019 businesses operating in maintenance mode, business can get a little slow.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, it\u2019s also one of the few times of the year when you might find journalists and editors more receptive to your pitches. Slower news days don\u2019t mean that the few journalists left manning the news desks can take it easy. They have to work twice as hard finding the news \u2013 that very often isn\u2019t there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> A freelance journalist friend once told me that he kept stories back for the summer months and would often be contacted by news desks desperate for ideas. He would tell journalists that he had a couple of ideas \u2018that weren\u2019t so great\u2019 but they would still \u2018bite his hand off\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>August is the month when you are allowed to pitch campaign ideas that wouldn\u2019t normally \u2018cut it\u2019 at any other time of the year \u2013 and they\u2019ll be gratefully received.<\/p>\n<p>With silly season now well and truly behind us, the real work begins \u2013 and make no mistake the months of September, October, November and December should be (for many businesses and their supporting agencies) the busiest time of the year.<\/p>\n<p>This means, after the long, slow summer months you need to hit the ground running and be on your best form. Campaign ideas need to be watertight, pitches need to be laser-focused and, yes, you\u2019re going to have to put the hours in if your strategy is going to succeed in an incredibly competitive market.<\/p>\n<p>But isn\u2019t this the reason why we work in PR?
