Vuelio’s political services team is at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton to bring you all the latest news.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Day two has been dominated by discussions about\u00a0the party\u2019s position on the UK\u2019s membership of\u00a0the European Single Market. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said\u00a0he would like the UK to remain permanently in the single market. John McDonnell said the party needs to make sure it takes into account the concerns of those who voted to leave.<\/p>\n

Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry aimed parts of her speech at Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, claiming that Johnson should take a ‘paternity test’ to see the true origin of the arguments and false claims surrounding Brexit.<\/p>\n

Shadow Brexit Secretary Keir Starmer said this is a tragic moment for the Government, and it does not have the strength to govern. Starmer\u2019s speech also picked on\u00a0Johnson – he was listed alongside David Cameron and Theresa May – the ‘authors’ of the ‘Brexit tragedy’. Starmer touched upon the subject of the day, saying that Labour could keep the UK in a reformed single market and a form of customs union.<\/p>\n

Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell delivered the keynote speech and will have made headlines with his pledge to end new Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contracts and bring existing contracts\u00a0back ‘in-house’. McDonnell also said that he would attempt to introduce a cap on the interest payments on credit cards.<\/p>\n
