As with any change on social media, the general consensus is to be outraged \u2013 but some brands are making use of the new limit to have \u2018fun\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>*unneccesary warning* this post is much longer than it would have been before the new 280-character limit. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To check that your account has been accepted into the 280 club, either write a really long tweet or check for a little blue ring, which has replaced character count, when you write a new tweet. \/><\/p>\n<p>When you hit zero and beyond, it turns red and your numbers become negative:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-109685\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/red-circle-twitter.jpg\" alt=\"280 characters\" width=\"126\" height=\"62\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Not everyone on Twitter is delighted with the change, and for many social media managers this is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BereniceJBaker\/status\/928192028537708545\" target=\"_blank\">seen as ruining Twitter\u2019s USP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our own social media manager, Kirsti Kauronen, said: \u2018One of the main reasons Twitter became so successful was because of the brevity of posts \u2013 if you can\u2019t say what you want in 140 characters (which I think is most people\u2019s attention span anyway) you might begin to bore people and Twitter might not be the right platform for you.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018From a communications perspective, I can see why many social media managers would be happy to avoid the everyday battle with the character limit but, personally, I\u2019d prefer to keep it!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Keeping to such a short limit encouraged creativity and so some are planning to stick to 140 characters:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" Congo.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Libya.<\/p>\n<p>Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>Syria.<\/p>\n<p>Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>Myanmar.<\/p>\n<p>Somalia.<\/p>\n<p>South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>We might have <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/280characters?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#280characters<\/a> but that&#8217;s still not enough to talk about all the places where civilians are caught in
