However, Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkhar is maintaining his instance on Northern Ireland remaining part of the EU customs union, and avoiding a hard border.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Calls to cancel Trump visit<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/halt-fascist-president-trump-s-state-visit-to-uk-demand-mps-5zln60tgt\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> that President Trump is still expected to visit the UK in February in order to open the US embassy, despite criticism from MPs and other politicians, including Mayor of London Sadiq Kahn. However, The Daily Telegraph <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2017\/11\/30\/donald-trumps-working-visit-uk-dropped-tensions-theresa-may\/\" target=\"_blank\">claims<\/a> that US diplomats have \u2018dropped plans\u2019 for Trump\u2019s visit and that it has been \u2018pushed into the long grass\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Warning over \u00a31bn care home funding gap<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/84bcef60-d5c3-11e7-8c9a-d9c0a5c8d5c9\" target=\"_blank\">According<\/a> to the Financial Times, the UK\u2019s care home sector has a \u00a31bn annual funding gap. A report by the Competition and Markets found that the \u2018current model of service provision cannot be sustained without additional public funding\u2019. The Labour Party called for an end to cuts to local authorities, but the Government pointed to increases in social care spending.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Corbyn: \u2018we\u2019re a threat\u2019 to banks<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2017\/nov\/30\/jeremy-corbyn-morgan-stanley-labour-brexit\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> Jeremy Corbyn\u2019s response to a warning from investment bank Morgan Stanley that he poses just as much of a threat to business as Brexit. In a video, he said \u2018So when they say we\u2019re a threat, they\u2019re right. We\u2019re a threat to a damaging and failed system that\u2019s rigged for the few.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Damian Green faces \u2018desperate fight\u2019 to save job<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIn an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/5039177\/damning-report-on-deputy-pm-damian-greens-behaviour-to-be-published\/\" target=\"_blank\">exclusive<\/a>, The Sun says that the Cabinet Office\u2019s investigation into First Secretary of State Damian Green\u2019s conduct \u2018will say it is unclear whether he broke the ministerial code, which is a sackable offence.\u2019 Having seen the initial findings, the paper claims that Downing Street has been working on \u2018a desperate plan\u2019 to save Green\u2019s job.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Record migration fall after Brexit vote<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Times has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/migration-falls-by-record-106-000-after-brexit-vote-ons-figures-show-cqpkj3hzw\" target=\"_blank\">details<\/a> of the largest ever annual fall in net migration ever recorded. Overall net migration fell by 106,000 to 230,000 in the year after the vote to leave the EU. Immigration minister Brandon Lewis said, \u2018With more Europeans continuing to arrive than leave, these figures show that claims of a \u2018Brexodus\u2019 are misguided.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>NHS patients to face treatment rationing and longer waits<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nSimon Stevens, the NHS England Chief Executive, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/nhs-patients-face-longer-waits-and-rationing-of-treatment-ffhbhqh7k\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> plans to \u2018make taxpayers\u2019 money go further\u2019, drawing up a list of 36 conditions which don\u2019t need treatment, and saying that new guidance expected from NICE could not be implemented without advance funding agreement. According to The Times, Government sources dismissed this as \u2018grandstanding\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Changes to \u2018snooper\u2019s charter\u2019 see police lose powers<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nA series of changes to the \u2018snooper\u2019s charter\u2019 will see senior police officers \u2018lose the power to self-authorise access to personal phone and web browsing records\u2019, The Guardian\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2017\/nov\/30\/police-to-lose-phone-and-web-data-search-authorisation-powers\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a>. A consultation paper published by the Home Office makes it clear that the changes, being made to comply with a European court ruling, will limit access to personal communications data by the police and other bodies to crimes with a prison sentence of six months or more.
