This followed the appearance of David Davis on television yesterday, describing the deal as a non-legally enforceable \u2018statement of intent\u2019 and insisting that the divorce bill would only be paid if a trade deal was secured. The paper reported that a Government source \u2018appeared to contradict\u2019 these claims.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\"><strong>Labour in favour of a \u2018Norway style agreement\u2019 with EU<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2017\/dec\/10\/labour-backs-easy-movement-of-eu-workers-after-brexit-says-keir-starmer\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> that Labour\u2019s Shadow Brexit Secretary Keir Starmer has set out his party\u2019s vision for Brexit. Appearing on The Andrew Marr Show, Starmer said that Labour was prepared to consider ongoing payments to the EU, accept the \u2018easy movement\u2019 of workers, wanted continued alignment of regulations and standards, and was seeking a \u2018Norway style agreement for the 21st century.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\"><strong>Chemical and pharmaceutical industries want to retain EU rules<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/8a9d05ce-dd9c-11e7-a8a4-0a1e63a52f9c\" target=\"_blank\">According<\/a> to the Financial Times, the chemicals and pharmaceuticals industries have written to Michael Gove urging the Government to let them remain within EU rules. A Government spokesperson said that it was working \u2018to ensure a smooth transition for the chemical industry\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\"><strong>\u2018Light at the end of the tunnel\u2019 for Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nNazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the British mother being held prisoner in Iran, has expressed hope after a trial scheduled for Sunday was postponed, after Boris Johnson met the country\u2019s President, as The Daily Telegraph <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2017\/12\/10\/nazanin-zaghari-ratcliffe-trial-postponed-boris-johnson-holds\/\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">Labour considers moving Bank of England to Birmingham<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nConsultants commissioned by John McDonnell, the Shadow Chancellor, have recommended moving some functions of the Bank of England to Birmingham, the Financial Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/a20e407a-dc4c-11e7-a039-c64b1c09b482\" target=\"_blank\">says<\/a>. The report says that co-locating these functions with Labour\u2019s planned National Investment Bank and Strategic Investment Board would \u2018create a new \u2018economic policy\u2019 hub.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\"><strong>Calls for Government to ban pension cold-calls<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Work and Pensions Select Committee is to call on the Government to fast-forward legislation to halt the use of cold-calling by scammers targeting people\u2019s pension pots, The Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/money\/2017\/dec\/11\/protect-savers-from-cold-call-pension-by-law-mps-urge\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a>. The committee is to publish its report on pensions freedoms today. The paper reports that almost \u00a35m has been lost to fraudsters in the first five months of 2017, but a ban is unlikely to come into effect before 2020.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">Ministers back straight civil partnerships<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/straight-civil-partnerships-have-backing-of-ministers-f5cnbn0kf\" target=\"_blank\">says<\/a> that the Government is to back a proposed change in the law to allow straight couples to enter civil partnerships. The paper reports that a private members\u2019 bill by Tim Loughton has gained support from ministers, and that \u2018it\u2019s just a question of getting wording sorted out\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">AA calls for parking fines cap<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nIn an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/5110290\/aa-councils-parking-tickets-money-cash\/\" target=\"_blank\">exclusive<\/a>, The Sun says that the AA is demanding a cap on the level of parking fines a council can issue each month, as well as more lenient treatment for first-time offenders.
