The committee is to recommend laws to shift liability for illegal content to social media firms, making them publishers, not platforms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Corbyn refuses to agree more detailed Brexit plans<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>The Guardian<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2017\/dec\/11\/jeremy-corbyn-refuses-to-firm-up-labours-brexit-plans\">says <\/a>that Jeremy Corbyn is resisting pressure to add more detail to Labour\u2019s Brexit plans, as the shadow cabinet meets today. Whilst some members have signalled a shift towards a closer future relationship with the EU, Corbyn\u2019s team reportedly believe that a more specific position could alienate key groups of voters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brexit: May unites party for now<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>The Financial Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/253d88b0-de97-11e7-8f9f-de1c2175f5ce\">claims <\/a>that May managed to unite her party yesterday in support of her deal with the EU, aided by the Government making a concession on the \u2018Henry VIII powers\u2019 which would have reduced the amount of parliamentary scrutiny of the implementation of Brexit. However, the paper says that this unity could be short-lived, and warns of splits over the details of a future UK\/EU trade deal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gove: new rules on animal sentience &amp; spend aid cash on plastic pollution<\/strong><br \/>\nMichael Gove is the focus of two stories in today\u2019s <em>Times<\/em>. He is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/gove-boost-aid-cash-in-fight-against-ocean-plastic-wc06jcc5s\">pressing <\/a>for more of the UK\u2019s overseas aid budget to be spend on reducing plastic pollution of the oceans, after a new report found that 90% of the waste came from ten Asian and African rivers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/gove-s-new-rules-protect-the-feelings-of-animals-0tdr5qvxj\">Separately<\/a>, new animal cruelty legislation to be unveiled today by Gove will \u2018bind the government to consider \u201cthe welfare needs of animals as sentient beings\u201d\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hammond sides with EU to demand Trump drops tax reforms<\/strong><br \/>\nPhilip Hammond has sided with four other European finance ministers to warn Donald Trump that his proposed tax reforms could prompt a trade war,<em> The Daily Telegraph<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2017\/12\/11\/philip-hammond-sides-eu-demand-donald-trump-drops-tax-reforms\/\">reports<\/a>. The ministers have joined together to warn that the proposed changes might contravene World Trade Organisation rules, whilst the paper reports that the Government is increasingly worried by signs of protectionism in the US.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NHS \u2018bloody stupid\u2019 to expect \u00a34bn cash injection, says former NHS Improvement chief<\/strong><br \/>\nJim Mackey, the former head of NHS Improvement, has said that NHS bosses were \u2018bloody stupid\u2019 to expect a \u00a34bn cash injection in the budget,<em> The Guardian<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2017\/dec\/11\/nhs-bosses-bloody-stupid-to-demand-4bn-cash-injection\">says<\/a>. He warned that statements made by NHS bosses will have alienated ministers, and that the amount given by the Government was \u2018not enough\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tom Watson: \u2018embrace an android\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\nLabour\u2019s Deputy Leader, Tom Watson, is to mark the final report of the Future of Work Commission today by giving a speech in which he will call on people to \u2018embrace an android\u2019, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/tech\/dont-fear-march-robots-theyll-11674352\">according <\/a>to <em>The Mirror<\/em>. The report will conclude that \u2018mass technological employment is highly unlikely.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clive Lewis cleared by Labour investigation<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2017\/dec\/12\/clive-lewis-cleared-labour-sexual-harassment-claim\">reports <\/a>that Labour MP Clive Lewis has been cleared of allegations of sexual harassment, following a party investigation. He had been accused of grabbing a female party member\u2019s bottom at the party\u2019s conference, but an internal investigation has dismissed the claim.
