As The Daily Telegraph <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2017\/12\/13\/pmqs-live-theresa-may-jeremy-corbyn-clash-government-prepares\/\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a>, one of the rebels, Stephen Hammond, was immediately sacked as vice-chairman of the Conservative Party. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn described the result as \u2018humiliating\u2019 for Theresa May. The paper suggests that the defeat will \u2018sour\u2019 May\u2019s visit to Brussels today.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>UK in last ditch appeal for trade talks with the EU before March<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2017\/dec\/13\/merkel-ally-manfred-weber-brexit-talks-second-referendum\" target=\"_blank\">says<\/a> that the UK is making last-minute efforts to persuade the EU to state willingness to hold trade talks before March. Measures to be introduced include \u00a350m for new nursery places, \u00a323m for a future talent fund, and closer co-operation with businesses on apprenticeships and technical qualifications.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Peers reject attack on press freedom<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/peers-reject-attack-on-press-freedom-qbs8jf2fl\" target=\"_blank\">says<\/a> that MPs rejected an amendment to the Data Protection Bill, which would have tightened an exemption for journalists who handle personal data to expose wrongdoing in the public interest. It also emerged that the office and British Columbia\u2019s office of the privacy and information commissioner are both investigating the Canadian firm AggregateIQ, which received millions of pounds from the leave campaign.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Businesses fear economic effect of a Corbyn government<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nAn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/businesses-fear-corbyns-britain-would-go-bust-in-three-years-w7tjjhb62\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> in The Times claims that businesses are worried about the impact of a Corbyn government.
