We caught up with Daniel to talk about world and arthouse cinema, the team\u2019s favourite film of 2017 and working collaboratively with PR professionals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>How would you describe your blog?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nWe are a team of passionate, UK-based cin\u00e9astes dedicated to bringing our readers the best possible quality of film criticism, from reviews of the latest theatrical and DVD\/Blu-ray releases to special features and international film festival coverage.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>What makes your blog successful?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nI think it would be our devotion to world cinema and arthouse filmmaking over the latest offering from the Disney\/DC\/Marvel stables. Our festival coverage is very comprehensive.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>How many films do you see in an average week?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nTypically, 5-10 new releases a week \u2013 more if we also have writers covering festivals abroad.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>What\u2019s your favourite film of all time?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nA very tricky question, although our favourite film of the last 12 months \u2013 as voted by our writers \u2013 was Sean Baker&#8217;s The Florida Project.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Least favourite film of all time?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nAnything that purely exists as Oscar bait \u2013 Forrest Gump, perhaps? Or The Blind Side. New films from Pablo Larrain (The True American) and Nuri Bilge Ceylan (The Wild Pear Tree) will always entice.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>What will win the Best Picture Oscar 2018?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nThe pessimist in me says Dunkirk but you never know. A bold(er) choice by the Academy would be for Get Out or the excellent Mudbound.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>How do you like to work with PRs?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nWe maintain good working relationships with all the necessary PRs in order to maintain wide coverage of new releases. Just don&#8217;t badger them!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Can you tell us about your favourite brand collaboration or screening experience?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nAnything from The Badlands Collective; they put on a double bill of David Fincher&#8217;s The Game and Jonathan Glazer&#8217;s Birth (both on 35mm) that was unbelievably good.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>What do you call yourselves? Bloggers\/influencers\/content creators?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nWe&#8217;re writers, nice and simple.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>What other blogs do you read?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nI would highly recommend the likes of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bfi.org.uk\/news-opinion\/sight-sound-magazine\">Sight &amp; Sound<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.filmcomment.com\/\">Film Comment<\/a> \u2013 both originated and continue in print form.
