Labour promises to settle antisemitism cases by July<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/strong>The BBC reports<\/a> that Labour has promised to settle the \u2018vast majority\u2019 of antisemitism cases by the end of July, following a meeting between Jeremy Corbyn, the Jewish Leadership Council and the Board of Deputies of British Jews. The organisations said that the talks were a \u2018disappointing, missed opportunity\u2019 and that a plan of action was not agreed, although Corbyn claimed that the meeting was \u2018positive and constructive\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Opposition parties offer support for Government action on junk food<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/strong>The Times<\/span><\/em> reports<\/a> that buy-one-get-one-free deals on junk food will be banned, with action to combat unhealthy lifestyles due to be announced before the end of June. Meanwhile, The Guardian<\/span><\/em> reports<\/a> that the number of cases of Home Office mistreatment of non-Caribbean Commonwealth-born citizens\u00a0is increasing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rees-Mogg describes \u2018customs partnership\u2019 plans as \u2018completely cretinous\u2019<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/strong>The BBC says<\/a> that Conservative backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg has described Theresa May\u2019s plan for a \u2018customs partnership\u2019 with the EU after Brexit as \u2018completely cretinous\u2019. Speaking at an event organised by the thinktank Open Europe, he said that Theresa May\u2019s attitude to Brexit was \u2018enigmatic\u2019 and that \u2018it’s hard to read what level of enthusiasm she has for it\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

UK and Welsh Governments reach agreement over post-Brexit powers<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/strong>The BBC reports<\/a> that the UK and Welsh Governments have reached agreement over changes to devolved powers in the EU (Withdrawal) Bill, with Welsh Finance Secretary Mark Drakeford saying that powers in areas \u2018currently devolved remain devolved\u2019. \n<\/span><\/strong>The Daily Mail<\/span><\/em> says<\/a> that Business Secretary Greg Clark is under pressure to review takeover rules after the Government approved Melrose\u2019s takeover of engineering firm GKN. Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson has secured a veto on the sale of sensitive parts of the business by Melrose to protect the UK\u2019s national security.<\/span><\/p>\n

Record number of EU nurses leave UK<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/strong>The Guardian<\/span><\/em> reports<\/a> that record numbers of nurses and midwives from EU27 countries left the UK last year, which it says fuels \u2018fears that a Brexit brain drain will deepen the NHS\u2019s already chronic staffing crisis.\u2019 The number of EU nurses and midwives arriving to work in the EU has also fallen to its lowest level.<\/span><\/p>\n

UK exploring launch of rival to EU\u2019s Galileo system<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/strong>According<\/a> to the Financial Times<\/span><\/em>, the Government is exploring plans to launch its own satellite navigation system as a rival to the EU\u2019s Galileo system, while Business Secretary Greg Clark is also taking legal advice on whether the UK will be able to reclaim the \u20ac1.4bn it has invested in the project since 2003, after the EU\u2019s decision to exclude the UK from secure parts of the project.<\/span><\/p>\n
