Government criticised for turning \u2018blind eye\u2019 to Russian money<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The BBC says<\/a> that a new report by the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee has found that London is being used to hide \u2018corrupt assets\u2019 of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his allies, with the UK turning a \u2018blind eye\u2019 to \u2018dirty money\u2019. Ben Wallace, the Security and Economic Crime Minister, has cast doubt on the report\u2019s findings because he was not called to give evidence to the committee. Separately, the Financial Times<\/em> reports<\/a> that the UK has not renewed the visa of Russian oligarch and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, leading him to miss the FA Cup final.<\/p>\n

May pledges to use artificial intelligence to save lives<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Times<\/em> reports<\/a> that Theresa May is to deliver a speech today in which she will promise to use artificial intelligence to study patient data to stop cancer or dementia before people know that they have it. She will say that this new technology is key to national prosperity and will save tens of thousands of lives a year within fifteen years.<\/p>\n

Johnson delivers \u2018thinly-veiled warning\u2019 over customs union<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Guardian<\/em> claims<\/a> that Boris Johnson has \u2018delivered a thinly-veiled warning\u2019 to the Prime Minister that he still expects her to deliver a deal which would avoid a backstop keeping the UK aligned to the customs union after 2020. He said that \u2018Brexiters fearing betrayal over the customs backstop must understand that the PM has been very clear that it is not an outcome we desire; we want a deal with the EU and she will deliver it.\u2019<\/p>\n

UK may partner with Australia to deliver Galileo rival<\/span>
\n<\/strong>According<\/a> to the Financial Times<\/em>, the UK is aiming to launch the first tenders for a satellite navigation system to rival the EU\u2019s Galileo project later this year, and hopes that Australia will become a partner in the programme. The BBC adds<\/a> that Gavin Williamson, the Defence Secretary, is to launch the UK\u2019s first space strategy today, claiming that the UK needs to be ready to counter \u2018intensifying threats\u2019 in space, such as the \u2018jamming\u2019 of satellites.<\/p>\n

Johnson visits Argentina<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Daily Mail<\/em> reports<\/a> on Boris Johnson\u2019s visit to Argentina, the first by a British Foreign Secretary for 22 years. He laid wreathes with his Argentinian counterpart Jorge Faurie at a ceremony at the Monument to the Fallen in the Falklands, commemorating the Argentinian troops who died in the Falklands War. Argentina\u2019s chief of the council of ministers, Mercos Pena, will reciprocate this gesture at St Paul\u2019s Cathedral next month.<\/p>\n

Gove and Davidson launch new thinktank<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Guardian<\/em> says<\/a> that Michael Gove and Ruth Davidson are to launch a new Tory thinktank, called Onward. Gove argues that his party \u2018is at its best when it appeals beyond its core vote and puts forward a reforming, forward-looking agenda that responds to the concerns of the entire nation.\u2019 Writing in the paper, Davidson calls on Conservatives to embrace the country\u2019s \u2018open liberal outlook as a positive \u2013 and not a threat.\u2019<\/p>\n

MPs criticise Motability over pay and reserves<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The BBC reports<\/a> that a report by the Commons Treasury and Work & Pensions Committees has found that the \u00a31.7m paid to the chief executive of the Motability scheme is \u2018totally unacceptable\u2019, while funds of \u00a32.4bn were being needlessly hoarded. The Government has said that the National Audit Office will look into the issues raised in the report.<\/p>\n

Remainers accused of exploiting Irish border issue<\/span>
\n<\/strong>Writing<\/a> in The Daily Telegraph<\/em>, former Conservative Northern Ireland Secretary Owen Paterson and DUP Brexit Spokesman Sammy Wilson accuse remainers of having \u2018cynically and recklessly exploited\u2019 the Irish border issue. A new report released by Queen\u2019s University Belfast finds that just one in five Northern Irish residents supports a united Ireland.<\/p>\n
