David Davis quits, leaving Cabinet \u2018in crisis\u2019<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Times<\/em> says<\/a> that the Cabinet is \u2018in crisis\u2019 following the resignation of Brexit Secretary David Davis late last night. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Davis said that \u2018the current trend of policy and tactics\u2019 was making it less likely that the \u2018mandate of the referendum\u2019 and manifesto promises to leave the customs union and the single market could be delivered. Friend of Davis tell the paper that he has also felt \u2018ignored\u2019 by May.<\/p>\n

Jacob Rees-Mogg warns that he\u2019ll vote against May\u2019s proposed deal<\/span>
\n<\/strong>Writing<\/a> in The Daily Telegraph<\/em>, Jacob Rees-Mogg has warned that he and other Eurosceptic Conservative MPs will vote against Theresa May\u2019s proposed deal with the EU. He accuses the plan of \u2018defeatism\u2019 and \u2018managing decline\u2019 rather than focusing \u2018on the world of opportunity outside the EU\u2019. Theresa May has also written for the paper, claiming that her new strategy is \u2018necessary to move the negotiations forward\u2019.<\/p>\n

Report into Carillion warns of flaws in Government outsourcing<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Guardian<\/em> carries<\/a> the findings of a report by the Commons Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee into the collapse of Carillion. The report concludes that the Government\u2019s \u2018aggressive approach to risk transfer\u2019 has led to companies taking on unacceptable financial risk. It also finds that the Government often does not understand risk levels and fails to recognise the level of quality being offered by different bidders.<\/p>\n

New homes to feature chargers for electric cars<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Times<\/em> reports<\/a> that new homes and all new streetlights will have to feature chargers for electric cars under the Government\u2019s plan to ban the sale of new diesel and petrol cars by 2040. Transport Secretary Chris Grayling is to claim that the plan will be \u2018the biggest overhaul in road transport technology\u2019 since the motorcar was developed, although the paper adds that environmentalists are likely to criticise the plan for being unambitious.<\/p>\n

Report highlights role of defence in the UK economy<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Guardian<\/em> says<\/a> Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson has published a report by former defence minister Philip Dunne which claims the military has \u2018played an integral role in British prosperity\u2019. Meanwhile, the BBC covers<\/a> a new report by the Centre for Entrepreneurs that calls for use of veterans\u2019 knowledge and experience to improve defence innovation.<\/p>\n

Ofsted head to warn against minority groups dictating school policy<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Daily Telegraph<\/em> previews<\/a> a speech to be given to Police Exchange by Amanda Spielman, Ofsted\u2019s Chief Executive, today. She will warn that schools must not permit minority groups with a \u2018sense of religious or cultural entitlement\u2019 to influence policies on uniform or the curriculum, and say that schools should teach children about being a British citizen.<\/p>\n

NHS needs \u00a318bn just to fill \u2018gaps\u2019<\/span>
\n<\/strong>According to analysis by NHS Providers featured<\/a> in The Times<\/em>, the NHS needs to spend \u00a318bn over the next three years just to meet targets, deal with backlogged maintenance and improve staffing levels and finances. The organisation, which represents NHS trusts, said that \u2018filling the gaps\u2019 would take up \u2018much if not most of the new money\u2019.<\/p>\n

Fallon tables amendment to prevent prosecution of Troubles veterans<\/span>
\n<\/strong>In an exclusive<\/a>, The Sun<\/em> reveals that former Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon is to table an amendment to the Northern Ireland Budget Bill today to prevent money from being spent on prosecuting British military veterans who served in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and are accused of murder, manslaughter or homicide during their service.<\/p>\n
