World leaders join with UK to condemn Russia over nerve agent attack
\n<\/strong><\/span>The Times<\/em>\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that US, German, French and Canadian leaders have expressed \u2018full confidence\u2019 in the UK\u2019s assessment that Russian agents carried out the Salisbury nerve agent attack. Security officials told the paper that the novichok used in the attack could have killed up to 4,000 people and was discarded in a \u2018reckless\u2019 manner. Russia has accused the UK of \u2018anti-Russian hysteria\u2019 and the UK is preparing for a Russian-sponsored disinformation campaign.<\/p>\n

Raab\u2019s Northern Ireland threat left Barnier \u2018furious\u2019
\n<\/strong><\/span>The Daily Telegraph<\/em>\u00a0claims<\/a>\u00a0that Dominic Raab threatened Michel Barnier, the EU\u2019s chief negotiator, that the EU would have to order the Irish government to instate the border with Northern Ireland, leaving him \u2018absolutely furious\u2019. It also says that progress on outstanding issues has been \u2018close to zero\u2019.\u00a0The Guardian<\/em>\u00a0adds<\/a>\u00a0that Ireland is hoping to agree a side deal which would allow it to continue to use the UK as a \u2018land bridge\u2019 for goods bound for the country without the need for border checks.<\/p>\n

Johnson splits with wife in blow to leadership ambitions
\n<\/strong><\/span>The Sun<\/em>\u00a0reveals<\/a>\u00a0that Boris Johnson has split with his wife, Marina, who accused him of cheating on her again. The paper claims that this new revelation is \u2018likely to deal a fresh blow\u2019 to the former Foreign Secretary\u2019s hopes of becoming party leader as it is likely to put off grassroots members with \u2018traditional views on marriage\u2019.<\/p>\n

Chancellor warns of spending cuts to fund no-deal Brexit
\n<\/strong><\/span>The\u00a0Financial Times<\/em>\u00a0claims<\/a>\u00a0that Chancellor Philip Hammond has \u2018irritated Downing Street\u2019, after he warned that there might be spending cuts in order to fund a no-deal Brexit, telling ministers that they would have to find savings within their budgets to fund the costs of long-term disruption. Separately, Treasury minister John Glen was pictured carrying a document about the Government\u2019s contingency planning (codenamed \u2018Operation Yellowhammer\u2019) which warned of financial instability and the need to \u2018maintain confidence\u2019.<\/p>\n

Blair says that he\u2019s \u2018not sure\u2019 that moderates can regain control of Labour
\n<\/strong><\/span>Speaking<\/a>\u00a0to the BBC\u2019s Nick Robinson, Tony Blair said that he is \u2018not sure it is possible\u2019 for moderates to regain control of the Labour Party from the left. He said that there had been \u2018a profound change\u2019 under Corbyn, resulting in \u2018a different type of Labour Party\u2019, and that he thought that something would emerge to fill the \u2018vacuum\u2019 between the two main parties.<\/p>\n

Treasury axes tax cut for self-employed
\n<\/strong><\/span>The\u00a0Financial Times<\/em>\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that Chancellor Philip Hammond has abandoned plans to cut Class 2 National Insurance contributions, a measure which would gave delivered a tax cut for millions of self-employed people. Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell described the move as \u2018yet another betrayal of the self-employed\u2019.<\/p>\n

Cable proposes new Lib Dem supporters scheme
\n<\/strong><\/span>The Guardian<\/em>\u00a0says<\/a>\u00a0that Sir Vince Cable is to propose a range of measures to reform the Liberal Democrats, including a new scheme for supporters who will be able to vote for the party leader without paying in order to make the party a Momentum-style \u2018movement for moderates\u2019. He is also expected to talk about his future as leader in today\u2019s speech.<\/p>\n

Bradley admits not knowing that Northern Ireland votes on sectarian lines
\n<\/strong><\/span>The\u00a0Daily Mail<\/em>\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that Karen Bradley, the Northern Ireland Secretary, has admitted that she did not know that \u2018people who are nationalists don’t vote for unionist parties and vice-versa\u2019. The paper\u00a0adds<\/a>\u00a0that she has announced a pay cut for members of the Northern Irish Assembly because of the powersharing stalemate.<\/p>\n
