Johnson allies accuse Number 10 of \u2018hit operation\u2019 after row over suicide vest comments<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Times<\/em>\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that allies of Boris Johnson are accusing Number 10 of trying to discredit him after he was criticised by fellow Conservative MPs for comparing the Prime Minister\u2019s Chequers plan to a suicide vest in a newspaper column. A \u2018senior Downing Street source\u2019 has dismissed the allegation, which included the suggestion that a \u2018dirty dossier\u2019 of Johnson\u2019s alleged infidelities had been deliberately leaked to the press as part of a \u2018sanctioned hit operation\u2019. The\u00a0Daily Mail<\/em>\u00a0adds<\/a>\u00a0that at least a dozen Conservative MPs are ready to leave the party in order to prevent him from becoming Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

EU set to agree new guidance to \u2018do the deal\u2019 on Brexit<\/span>
\n<\/strong>According<\/a>\u00a0to the\u00a0Financial Times<\/em>, the EU is to give Michel Barnier, its chief Brexit negotiator, new guidance following a meeting at Salzburg this month. A \u2018senior EU diplomat\u2019 has told that paper that should the plan be approved, Barnier\u2019s new instructions would \u2018serve as a sort of mandate to do the deal\u2019, with another diplomat claiming that it would be a \u2018save Theresa\u2019 operation. However, diplomats do not expect any core principles to be revised.<\/p>\n

Johnson calls for tax cuts<\/span>
\n<\/strong>Boris Johnson\u00a0uses his column<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0The Daily Telegraph<\/em>\u00a0to call for tax cuts, urging Theresa May to promise that \u2018tax henceforward will not go up. That\u2019s it. No new taxes and no increase in rates\u2019. He argues for a reduction in order to help the economy and \u2018show how a post-Brexit Britain will be a happy and dynamic economy that fosters enterprise\u2019.<\/p>\n

Tory Brexiteers\u2019 Brexit plan leaks<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The Guardian<\/em>\u00a0outlines<\/a>\u00a0the details of a leaked version of the European Research Group\u2019s draft Brexit plan. It includes tax cuts, a new force to defend the Falklands and a UK-made missile defence system, as well as an invisible customs frontier on the Irish border and a Canada-style deal with the EU. The group\u2019s leader Jacob Rees-Mogg has insisted that the version obtained by the press is an early draft.<\/p>\n

Separately,\u00a0The Sun<\/em>\u00a0says<\/a>\u00a0that Russian hackers attempted to impersonate Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson in an attempt to defraud Conservative Party donors and embarrass the Ministry of Defence.<\/p>\n

Government to launch Victims Strategy today<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The\u00a0Daily Mirror<\/em>\u00a0is\u00a0claiming victory<\/a>\u00a0in its campaign for legislation to protect crime victims. Theresa May is to announce the Victims Strategy today, giving victims the legal right to be heard, informed and challenge decisions, and establishing an Independent Public Advocate.<\/p>\n

TUC to call for four-day working week<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The BBC\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that the TUC is claiming that a four-day working week will be possible this century, but only if businesses have to share the benefits of technology with their workforce. Frances O\u2019Grady, the TUC\u2019s general secretary, said that \u2018technology could be a force for good, we can also make everyone’s working lives better and richer\u2019.<\/p>\n

Businesses will stockpile \u00a340bn of imports to cope with no-deal Brexit<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The\u00a0Financial Times<\/em>\u00a0carries details<\/a>\u00a0of a study by the Centre for Economics and Business Research, which finds that British companies will stockpile around \u00a340bn of imports in order to cope with a no-deal Brexit, making \u2018a post-Brexit mini-recession almost inevitable, according to Douglas McWilliams, CEBR\u2019s founder.<\/p>\n
