Question Time has aired almost 1,400 episodes and still pulls in around two million viewers for each.<\/p>\n<p>There were rumours that the BBC were choosing Bruce to give a \u2018softer feel\u2019 to Question Time, but before the show Bruce said: \u2018They\u2019d have the wrong person if they were.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The person I am in the newsroom, which you won\u2019t particularly see on air because you\u2019re so sublimated in a studio, is opinionated, feisty, argumentative.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018That\u2019s what I\u2019m known for there. I think you\u2019ll see more of that.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Her debut was considered a success with positive reviews in the press and online.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s show had a panel comprised of the Conservative deputy chairman, James Cleverly, the shadow foreign secretary, Emily Thornberry, columnist Melanie Phillips, comedian Nish Kumar and Jo Swinson, the deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/tv\/2019\/01\/11\/question-time-fiona-bruces-first-show-reviewauthoritative-sceptical\/?WT.mc_id=tmg_share_tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telegraph<\/a> said: \u2018She brought calmness, clarity and even some dry wit to her impressive debut\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2019\/jan\/11\/question-time-fiona-bruce-is-fresh-face-in-a-tired-format\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guardian<\/a> said Bruce \u2018felt fresh and effective\u2019, however, it felt that perhaps \u2018the BBC should have taken advantage of the succession to shake up the structure as well\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Following the show, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressgazette.co.uk\/fiona-bruce-praised-for-impressive-question-time-debut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Press Gazette<\/a> asked its audience what they thought \u2013 with 78% saying she \u2018Smashed it\u2019.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">What did you think of Fiona Bruce&#8217;s debut as BBC Question Time host?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Press Gazette (@pressgazette) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pressgazette\/status\/1083688840320217090?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 11, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Some viewers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/uk\/1070403\/bbc-question-time-fiona-bruce-david-dimbleby-qt-reaction-emily-thornberry\">said<\/a> that Bruce needed to speak louder, but general feedback was very good.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">&#8216;If this is the Govt. being in control, what does out of control look like?&#8217; Great question from Fiona Bruce.
