However, the DUP continues to insist that it would be \u2018impossible\u2019 for its MPs to back the deal, while around 20 Conservative MPs continue to oppose it. A continued customs union secured the most support, failing by just eight votes, while a new referendum garnered more votes than expected, losing by 27. Shadow cabinet members Jon Trickett, Ian Lavery and Andrew Gwynne all abstained on the policy, while the 27 Labour MPs who rebelled against the whip also included Sheffield City Region mayor Dan Jarvis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>May considers splitting deal<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/cb7cb5ba-50b1-11e9-9c76-bf4a0ce37d49?utm_campaign=Political%20Services%20Publications%202019&amp;utm_source=hs_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_jnDsrzvFkEGsZ8FEWqWPlwHOYGEe1XBL88kq_8XqTla4pYaCpu_rQk86I54QKVwJGRNbM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hs-link-id=\"0\">According<\/a>\u00a0to the\u00a0<em>Financial Times<\/em>, Theresa May is considering trying to circumvent John Bercow\u2019s block on a third meaningful vote by splitting the Brexit deal and only putting the withdrawal agreement before MPs for their approval, cutting off the political declaration on the future relationship. According to the paper this growth is being driven by social care costs, with the Local Government Association warning that cuts in funding from the Government mean there will be \u2018continued cutbacks to local government\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Labour to unveil National Grid nationalisation plans<br \/>\n<\/strong>The BBC\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/science-environment-47728548?utm_campaign=Political%20Services%20Publications%202019&amp;utm_source=hs_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_jnDsrzvFkEGsZ8FEWqWPlwHOYGEe1XBL88kq_8XqTla4pYaCpu_rQk86I54QKVwJGRNbM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hs-link-id=\"0\">reports<\/a>\u00a0that Labour is to publish a policy paper laying out its plans to take the National Grid into public ownership.
