\n<\/strong>The BBC\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that Labour has said it is expecting to hold further talks to find a Brexit compromise with the Government, as peers continue considering a bill put forward by Yvette Cooper which would force Theresa May to request a Brexit extension, rather than accepting a no-deal Brexit. Solicitor General Robert Buckland said the likely outcome of talks was \u2018something approximating a customs arrangement or customs union\u2019. The\u00a0Financial Times<\/em>\u00a0says<\/a>\u00a0French President Emmanuel Macron is demanding \u2018tough political conditions\u2019 on any Brexit extension, including guarantees that the UK will not disrupt the EU\u2019s business.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>Writing<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0The Sun<\/em>, Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Jeremy Wright says that he used a face-to-face meeting with Facebook\u2019s Mark Zuckerberg to warn him that the UK had \u2018reached a turning point\u2019 over the social media firm\u2019s failure to tackle harmful content, with new laws the \u2018only option\u2019. The Online Harms White Paper, published today, will contain new measures to make firms responsible for protecting their users, with senior management at risk of prosecution, and companies potentially being banned from the UK.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>Writing<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0The Daily Telegraph<\/em>, Boris Johnson insists that Conservative MPs won\u2019t let Theresa May \u2018surrender\u2019 to Jeremy Corbyn, insisting that agreeing to a customs union with the EU \u2018cannot, must not and will not happen.\u2019 The paper adds that May has given \u2018the clearest signal yet\u2019 that she will agree a customs union, saying that a cross-party deal is needed and would require \u2018compromise on both sides\u2019.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>The Times\u00a0<\/em>reports<\/a>\u00a0that new research by the Hansard Society finds that over half the population wants a \u2018strong leader willing to break the rules\u2019, with nearly-three quarters agreeing that the country\u2019s governance needed \u2018quite a lot\u2019 or \u2018a great deal\u2019 of improvement. Ruth Fox, the society\u2019s director said that this \u2018would challenge core tenets of our democracy\u2019 and was \u2018a potentially toxic recipe for the future of British politics\u2019.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>The Guardian\u00a0<\/em>reports<\/a>\u00a0that the Jewish Labour Movement has voted for a motion of no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn\u2019s leadership of the Labour Party which claimed that the party was \u2018institutionally antisemitic\u2019. Separately, the party has denied a story in\u00a0The Sunday Times\u00a0<\/em>criticising its handling of complaints about antisemitism.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>The\u00a0Daily Mail\u00a0<\/em>reveals<\/a>\u00a0that despite Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson\u2019s pledge last June to allow 50 Afghan interpreters who had helped British troops to settle in the UK with their families, none have yet arrived despite increasing danger in their home country. So far just one interpreter has been given permission to come to the UK, and will arrive within weeks.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>The Guardian\u00a0<\/em>says<\/a>\u00a0that the Residential Landlords Association has warned that confusion over Brexit will cause problems for tenants from the EU, criticising the Government for not giving clear guidance about the settled status scheme. Landlords face fines of up to \u00a35000 if they are found to be renting a property to an illegal immigrant.<\/p>\n
