Shadow Environment Secretary Sue Hayman said the negotiations were \u2018really constructive\u2019 and engaged more with \u2018the nuts and bolts of the detail\u2019, while Cabinet Office Minister David Lidington said he was encouraged by the \u2018need for greater urgency\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conservative MEP candidates told to keep a low profile<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/don-t-mention-brexit-tories-fear-enraging-voters-at-polls-r0w8k3h2q?utm_campaign=Political%20Services%20Publications%202019&amp;utm_source=hs_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_XZijO46P5F_uU_nCBxSRDwik3M_HlNAHgCjHa52gvHKcE22ZYJcfGR-3EcSiRtnYawGmj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hs-link-id=\"0\">According<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<em>The Times<\/em>, Conservative candidates for the European Parliament have been told to \u2018lie low\u2019 in order to avoid antagonising voters before the local elections. The official launch of the party\u2019s campaign is expected to be held on 7 May, with a senior Conservative explaining that canvass returns had improved over recess as \u2018Brexit was off the boil and attention was away from Westminster\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Corbyn under pressure to accept second referendum<br \/>\n<\/strong>The\u00a0<em>Daily Mirror\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/politics\/brexit-jeremy-corbyn-under-pressure-14970072?utm_campaign=Political%20Services%20Publications%202019&amp;utm_source=hs_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_XZijO46P5F_uU_nCBxSRDwik3M_HlNAHgCjHa52gvHKcE22ZYJcfGR-3EcSiRtnYawGmj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hs-link-id=\"0\">claims<\/a>\u00a0that Jeremy Corbyn is resisting pressure to agree to a referendum on any Brexit deal ahead of a meeting of Labour\u2019s National Executive Committee today. The party is coming under pressure to do so from many of its own MPs, as well as the Unison, GMB and Usdaw trade unions. However, it is likely to maintain its stance of only having a referendum on a Conservative or no-deal Brexit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Government to back revised climate change target<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>The Times<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/britain-to-aim-for-net-zero-emissions-by-2050-3wxl03k7w?utm_campaign=Political%20Services%20Publications%202019&amp;utm_source=hs_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_XZijO46P5F_uU_nCBxSRDwik3M_HlNAHgCjHa52gvHKcE22ZYJcfGR-3EcSiRtnYawGmj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hs-link-id=\"0\">suggests<\/a>\u00a0that the Government will back a revised climate target from the Climate Change Committee when it is announced this week. Although Cabinet ministers have yet to back the move, Theresa May is likely to endorse the proposed target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, although the Government won\u2019t back all of the suggested measures to reach it.
