\n<\/strong>The Times<\/em> says<\/a> that Tory leadership hopefuls \u2018have embraced a no-deal Brexit\u2019 in order to tackle the threat posed by Nigel Farage. Dominic Raab called on the party to show \u2018unflinching resolve\u2019 to leave the EU, even if there wasn\u2019t a deal, while Esther McVey said that cross-party agreement was \u2018not possible\u2019. They have been joined by other candidates, including Boris Johnson and Andrea Leadsom.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>The Guardian<\/em> says<\/a> that Jeremy Corbyn has promised to back a referendum on any Brexit deal, following Labour\u2019s losses in the European elections. He said that he was \u2018listening very carefully\u2019 to both sides, would prefer a general election, but that any Brexit deal would need \u2018to be put to a public vote\u2019. Labour sources said that this was a change in his position, with pressure coming from allies such as John McDonnell, as well as Tom Watson, the deputy leader, who has backed calls for a special conference or an all-member ballot on the issue.<\/p>\n

The leadership contender argues that trying to do so would lead to a general election, the potential \u2018extinction\u2019 of his party, and the UK\u2019s \u2018first Marxist prime minister\u2019.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>The Financial Times<\/em> reports<\/a> that the cross-community Alliance Party of Northern Ireland won its first European seat, taking the second of three in the region alongside the DUP and Sinn F\u00e9in. Party leader and newly-elected MEP Naomi Long said that\u00a0 this was \u2018a vote to have a \u201cpeople\u2019s vote\u201d\u2019. The seat she won was previously held by the Ulster Unionist Party.<\/p>\n
