In 2008, the year of the foundation\u2019s launch, CIPR data found that just 6.3% of the PR practitioner population were from a BAME background. By 2020, that percentage was still \u2018woefully low\u2019 at 9%, according to the charity\u2019s chief executive Melissa Lawrence. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uIpsvOyMAXs&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Watch our accessmatters session with Melissa<\/a>, and catch up with the good work of the foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/spotlight-on-the-taylor-bennett-foundation-with-chief-executive-melissa-lawrence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in this interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>The Financial Times\u2019 Proud FT<\/h2>\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"accessmatters - Cassius Naylor, assistant to the CMO and co-chair of Proud FT at the Financial Times\" width=\"1500\" height=\"844\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uMzNnC38gow?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The UK media has a long history of exclusionary hiring practices and reporting when it comes to marginalised communities. Helping to push back on this is the Financial Times\u2019 inclusion group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/this-is-where-we-all-can-make-a-discernable-difference-accessmatters-with-cassius-naylor-proud-ft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Proud FT<\/a>, chaired by Cassius Naylor. As well as supporting transgender and nonbinary employees working within the organisations, Proud FT also works for fair representations of the LGBTQ+ community in the press. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uMzNnC38gow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Watch our accessmatters session<\/a> with Cassius to find out how the PR industry can help with fighting misrepresentation and misinformation.<\/p>\n<h2>The Social Mobility Foundation<\/h2>\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"accessmatters - Sarah Atkinson, Chief Executive of The Social Mobility Foundation\" width=\"1500\" height=\"844\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NP7Ke-e7xMQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>There continues to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/prs-class-problem-needs-to-be-fixed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a class problem<\/a> in the media and the communications industries, alike \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/statistics-from-ciprs-state-of-the-profession-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CIPR\u2019s State of the Profession report from 2020<\/a> finding that PRs are more likely to have a degree (76%) compared to the general public (35%), and that 41% of PRs have parents with university degrees. \u2018Something isn\u2019t working when talent still isn\u2019t making as much of a difference as background,\u2019 says The Social Mobility Foundation\u2019s Sarah Atkinson who believes change is long overdue.<\/p>\n<h2>Sports Media LGBT+<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-139706 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Jon-Holmes.jpg\" alt=\"Jon Holmes\" width=\"760\" height=\"430\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Jon-Holmes.jpg 760w, https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Jon-Holmes-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Jon-Holmes-705x399.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Jon-Holmes-500x283.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Established in 2017 to advocate for inclusion in the media industry and across sport in general, Sports Media LGBT+ was founded by Sky Sports senior home page editor Jon Holmes. Starting as a way for LGBT+ people and allies in sports media to network, the group aims to broaden connection and community.
