As a result, Forbes and other major news publications cited a response to two similar lawsuits that didn\u2019t get the same level of media attention at the time \u2013 meaning a swift response now would have helped them keep prior legal action under the radar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taken from a case back in August, OpenAI was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/antoniopequenoiv\/2023\/09\/20\/george-rr-martin-and-other-big-name-authors-sue-openai-for-copyright-infringement\/?sh=326a2fda3ef8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">quoted saying<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that such copyright claims \u2018misconceive the scope of copyright, failing to take into account the limitations and exceptions (including fair use) that properly leave room for innovations like the large language models now at the forefront of artificial intelligence\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the story has emerged, positive sentiment towards OpenAI and ChatGPT in international news sources has dropped to a record low compared to the rest of the year. On the other hand, negative commentary appears to be relatively low and controlled.
