After writing that<\/span> James Harding seemed to have an easy first day<\/a>, the BBC was struck with another Newsnight scandal. Beardgate, as the event has inevitably been dubbed, has caused a storm of comment, opinion and ridiculous comparison pics. That’s right, Jeremy Paxman has a beard.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The fact Paxman\u2019s beard and the \u2018official\u2019 statement<\/a> that followed caused such a stir, has led many to point to the story as an example of Silly Season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, a very real issue has emerged(!) The statement refers to the irrational fear of beards as \u2018pognophobic\u2019 rather than the correct \u2018pogonophobic\u2019. Yet an outcry that Paxman, or Paxman\u2019s scribe, seemingly can\u2019t spell or fact check is yet to materialise.<\/p>\n

Facial media (as it shall hence be known) provided a wealth of comedy gold from @AquilaRift\u2019s:<\/p>\n
