{"id":52497,"date":"2014-01-02T12:53:08","date_gmt":"2014-01-02T11:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/?p=52497"},"modified":"2014-01-02T12:53:08","modified_gmt":"2014-01-02T12:53:08","slug":"gta-v-and-james-bond-rescue-uks-entertainment-retail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/blog\/gta-v-and-james-bond-rescue-uks-entertainment-retail\/","title":{"rendered":"GTA V and James Bond rescue UK&#8217;s entertainment retail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Grand Theft Auto V, Daniel Craig as James Bond in Skyfall and FIFA &#8217;14 \u00a0attracted enough takers in 2013 to pull the UK&#8217;s entertainment sector out of the doldrums.\u00a0\u00a0According to preliminary year-end figures released by the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA),\u00a0UK\u2019s entertainment retail grew for the first time in five years in 2013 thanks to an uptake in digital products and services.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The music, video and games market pegged at \u00a35.4bn in 2013, depicts a 4% rise from 2012 when it was worth \u00a35.1bn.<\/p>\n<p>The sales figures reflect the overall shift in content consumption patterns with digital categories leading the growth for the entertainment sector. \u00a0According to ERA, subscriptions on Netflix, Amazon\u2019s LoveFilm and downloads on Apple\u2019s iTunes grew by 40.2% to reach \u00a3621.4 million. Music streaming via the likes of Spotify, Deezer, O2 Tracks and bloom.fm, grew by 33.7% to \u00a3103 million. Meanwhile, digital games, which covers mobile gaming as well as PC and console downloads, grew by 16.4% to \u00a31.18bn. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The biggest-selling individual entertainment title was Grand Theft Auto V while the best-performing physical formats were Blu-ray video up 10% to \u00a3251.8 million and vinyl albums whose sales more than doubled (up 101%) to \u00a314.6 million, the release said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/ERA.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-52498 aligncenter\" alt=\"Photo Courtesy: ERA\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/ERA.png\" width=\"587\" height=\"515\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>ERA director general Kim Bayley was quoted saying: \u2018This is a stunning result after at least five years of decline. Retailers have invested hundreds of millions of pounds in new digital services and these numbers suggest the public is responding in their droves.
