He also topped Cision\u2019s<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/social-media-index\/top-10-uk-education-blogs\/\" title=\"Top 10 Education Blogs\" target=\"_blank\">Top 10 UK Education Blogs<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Mr-McGill-red-tie-2.2-250x223.jpg\" alt=\"Ross Morrison McGill\" width=\"250\" height=\"223\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-53346\" \/>Ross spoke to us about the power of blogging and the advantages and detriments of social media; particularly from the frontline in the classroom. He was adamant that the social media epoch in education is upon us and that more and more teachers are taking control of their own professional development.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Why should people read your blog?<\/span><br \/><\/b>I aim to keep teachers updated with great ideas for the classroom; as well as sharing my own leadership journey. Conflicting government diktat and changeable Ofsted frameworks means that navigating the path to outstanding can be challenging. As I gather this information for my own needs, it only seems natural to share it with the wider profession.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">What makes your blog different?<\/span><br \/><\/b>Whether you are an experienced teacher or someone who has little practical teaching experience, there are ideas on my blog that will change the way you think about your lessons, teaching and school leadership. The social-feedback I\u2019ve received suggests the information that is shared has reached all four corners of the globe!<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">What&#8217;s your favourite blog and why?<\/span><br \/><\/b>I have an <a href=\"http:\/\/teachertoolkit.me\/2013\/08\/21\/favourite-educational-blogs\/\" title=\"Extensive list on my blog\" target=\"_blank\">extensive list on my blog<\/a>, which includes Tom Sherrington\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/headguruteacher.com\/\" title=\"head guru teacher\" target=\"_blank\">headguruteacher<\/a>, Stephen Lockyer\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.classroomtm.co.uk\/\" title=\"ClasrroomTm\" target=\"_blank\">ClassroomTM<\/a>, David Didau\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.learningspy.co.uk\/\" title=\"The LEarning Spy\" target=\"_blank\">The Learning Spy<\/a> and Alex Quigley\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huntingenglish.com\/\" title=\"HuntingEnglish\" target=\"_blank\">HuntingEnglish<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog?<\/span><br \/><\/b>I have written about this subject in a post titled \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/teachertoolkit.me\/2014\/01\/03\/cynosuraladdiction-to-blogging-by-teachertoolkit\/\" title=\"cynosuraladdiction\" target=\"_blank\">#CynosuralAddiction to blogging by @TeacherToolkit<\/a>\u2019. I am fully addicted to my own blog and I\u2019d be lying if I said it hasn\u2019t impacted on my own job and home life\u2026 So, you need to tread carefully and balance the benefits of blogging, versus the flexibility of your work\/life and the choice of web-tools available.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">How does a good PR work with you?<\/span><br \/><\/b>Working to promote good news in education.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">What do PRs do that&#8217;s bad?<\/span><br \/><\/b>Sell their products with no direct benefits to teachers. I receive countless requests to advertise goods. I can safely say I have only promoted two or three companies on my blog that I have personally used in my own classroom, which have benefited my students.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">What was your blogging highlight of 2013?<\/span><br \/><\/b>There are many!
