Charities have not had an easy time in recent years. The financial crisis put pressure on both ends of their operations – their ability to raise cash and their ability to deliver services. As a result, passively collecting donations is often no longer an option, with many charities having had to adopt more \u201caggressive\u201d fund raising.<\/p>\n
But, despite all their good work, it seems the charity sector is facing a backlash.<\/p>\n
In the past couple of weeks, vast swaths of column inches in the tabloid and broadsheet press have been dedicated to the fund raising activities of many charities. In some reports, some of these activities have even been linked to the tragic death of a woman who could no longer cope with the demands of so many organisations asking her for money.<\/p>\n
More recently, the salaries and lifestyles of several charity bosses have come under media scrutiny with outraged articles reporting earnings higher than the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n
