Over the years the iconic magazine has championed issues such as chemical pollution, deforestation, global warming, endangered species as well as featuring some of the highest-quality photojournalism in the world. And now its sister publication, <a href=\"http:\/\/main-nationalgeographicphotography-aplmedia.content.pugpig.com\/\">National Geographic Traveller (UK)<\/a> is taking the next step forward with the launch of a new photography app which is now available to download. In this Spotlight\u00a0Tamsin Wressell, assistant editor chats to us about why they decided to create the new app, how\u00a0they would like to work with PRs and the\u00a0challenges of \u00a0launching a digital publication.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/NationalGeographicSpotlight1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-90312 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/NationalGeographicSpotlight1.jpg\" alt=\"NationalGeographicSpotlight1\" width=\"689\" height=\"458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/NationalGeographicSpotlight1.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/NationalGeographicSpotlight1-768x511.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 689px) 100vw, 689px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">You\u2019ve got an exciting new digital launch \u2014 can you tell us a little bit more about the Photography Magazine<\/span>?\u00a0<\/strong>The magazine is filled with photographic features from the National Geographic Traveller (UK) magazine. It\u2019s a platform for us to showcase the great photographers in the magazine and their work, some of which we can\u2019t feature due to space restrictions. The aim is to give our readers further insight into the people behind the camera, with expert tips, practical advice, interviews and how-to guides.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/National-Geographic-Spotlight-Tamsin-Wressell.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-90313 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/National-Geographic-Spotlight-Tamsin-Wressell.jpg\" alt=\"National Geographic Spotlight Tamsin Wressell\" width=\"418\" height=\"278\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The app also covers how to work with photographs in post-production and offers guidance on the best equipment (including links to buy featured products), as well as exclusive competitions and offers.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">What are your plans for the digital magazine?<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>We\u2019ll publish ten magazines a year via the app, with each issue going behind the scenes of that month\u2019s <em>Traveller <\/em>magazine. We\u2019re planning to expand the content available on the app \u2014 but it\u2019ll still be free to download.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">How will you be working with PRs, and what advice would you give PRs on how to work with you?<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>We\u2019ll be looking for PR involvement with competitions, campaigns, photographers or book promotions, plus any special reader offers. We can feature these in the magazine alongside the equipment guides \u2014 I\u2019m always looking for new cameras and accessories that we can cover for our readers.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">What challenges do you think you might face with the new digital publication?<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>This is our first digital-only title, so it\u2019s a learning curve for all of us. We might not grab those readers who prefer the tactile experience of print media, but we\u2019re hoping to tap into a wider audience who are more attracted to digital products.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">How do you use social media? What role does it have to play in your work?<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>We\u2019re using social media to promote the app and to interact with our followers, letting them know how to download and use it. We\u2019ll be publishing some of the features from the app on our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.natgeotraveller.co.uk\/\">natgeotraveller.co.uk<\/a> site, to give readers a taste of what they can find in the app, and sharing them on social media. We\u2019re hoping to create a community of like-minded individuals to work with us on our photography development in the digital world. We have a growing network of Instagram followers and we\u2019re always on the lookout for new talent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Vuelio-National-Geographic-Spotlight-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-90314 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Vuelio-National-Geographic-Spotlight-2.jpg\" alt=\"Vuelio National Geographic Spotlight 2\" width=\"358\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"border: solid 2px #FFA500; background-color: #ffd085; padding: 10px; margin: 10px;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Take 5:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">If you could only take three things with you on a holiday, what would they be?<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>My travel journal, a DLSR camera and enough money to buy whatever the local drink is.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Pepsi or Coke?<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>Is\u00a0Dr\u00a0Pepper produced by Pepsi or Coke? I\u2019ll go for that one.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>What<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>colour<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">in a crayon box would you be, and why?<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>I polled the office and orange came out on top. One answer was \u2018something pottery-friendly, like ochre\u2019. I have no idea what that means.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Are you a city-break person or a beach-goer?<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>I get a little restless on beaches. I\u2019m more into city breaks, but one of my\u00a0favourite\u00a0trips was to Rio de Janeiro, which combined the two. I could feast on local cuisine in the city restaurants in the evening\u00a0and still catch the sunset from a rocky outcrop between Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Lastly, if you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would you go and why?<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>Could I make it a multi-destination trip? I have a pretty long\u00a0wish-list\u00a0right now. But if I could go anywhere for free, I\u2019d love to spend a couple of weeks driving around Iceland.
