While the games will be avidly consumed and analysed across all media, the British Olympic Association (BOA) is reminding businesses that unless you are an official sponsor of the games, jumping on the Olympic bandwagon is strictly forbidden.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The BOA\u2019s guidelines for non-Olympic partners, athletes and agents (referred to as Rule 40), declare that during the games businesss will not be allowed to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use any Olympic or Games trademarks including Olympic(s) (or similar), the Olympic motto \u201cCitius \u2013 Atius \u2013 Fortius\u201d, the Olympic Rings or the Rio 2016 marks.<\/li>\n<li>Use the Team GB, Believe In Extraordinary word marks, logos or hashtags.<\/li>\n<li>Use any images captured at Olympic Games venues (still or moving).<\/li>\n<li>Use any other Olympic Games IP (e.g. medals, team kit).<\/li>\n<li>Re-tweet any Team GB tweets at any time, or re-tweet athletes\u2019 posts (which relate to the Games) during the Games Period.<\/li>\n<li>Reference athletes\u2019 participation in the Olympic Games, including by way of congratulatory messaging during the Games Period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To put this in simple terms, if a British athlete wins gold (and let\u2019s hope many do), unless you are an official sponsor of the games, your business will not be allowed to mention it via social media.<\/p>\n<p>Even a tweet as innocuous as the following is deemed unacceptable:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/COMPANYX.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-90844\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/COMPANYX.jpg\" alt=\"COMPANYX\" width=\"543\" height=\"139\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the BOA, Rule 40 (which is applied during the \u201cGames Period\u201d from July 27 until August 24) is designed to \u201cPrevent ambush marketing, which might otherwise utilise athletes to create an association with the Games and jeopardise the funding of those, and future, Games, and the funding of Team GB.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Social media teams might want to brush up on Olympic etiquette or face the wrath of the BOA.<\/p>\n<p>A downloadable guide to Rule 40 and how it might impact on your involvement with the games is available from <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamgb.com\/docs\/default-source\/default-document-library\/default-document-library\/rule-40-guidelines-final.pdf?sfvrsn=2\">Team GB\u2019s websit<\/a>e<\/u>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With less than two weeks to go before the start of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, sports fans around the world are getting ready to cheer on their nations\u2019 athletes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":423,"featured_media":90845,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3729],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/90843"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/423"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=90843"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/90843\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/90845"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=90843"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=90843"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.vuelio.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=90843"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
