Richmond Park by-election<\/u><\/p>\n

Sarah Olney <\/strong>(Lib Dem) was elected as Member of Parliament on 1st<\/sup> December for Richmond Park, with 20,510 votes, 49.7% of the vote, and a majority of 1,872.<\/p>\n

Sleaford and North Hykeham by-election<\/span><\/p>\n

The by-election will take place this Thursday 8th<\/sup> December.<\/p>\n

    • Baroness King of Bow<\/strong> has taken a Leave of Absence from the Lords.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Devolved Institutions<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      • A new Brexit <\/strong>cross party group has been launched by Alex Neil MSP (SNP). An initial meeting was held on 29th<\/sup> November, attended by members of Labour and the Conservatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Local Government<\/strong><\/h3>\n

        • Cllr Bob Wellington<\/strong> CBE will stand down as leader of Torfaen council<\/strong> at the end of 2016.<\/li>\n
        • The Labour Party group in Torfaen are now conducting an election process. An interim leader of the council will be announced on 13th<\/sup> December<\/strong>. A formal appointment will be made by the full council in the New Year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          European Parliament<\/strong><\/h3>\n

          This week MEPs will be in\u00a0Brussels<\/strong> for committee meetings and political group meetings.<\/em><\/p>\n

          • On\u00a06th December<\/strong> the Socialists and Democrats<\/strong> will hold an election for their leader in the Parliament.\u00a0Gianni Pittella,<\/strong> the current leader is expected to be re-elected.<\/li>\n
          • Gianna Pittella<\/strong> launched a bid for the Presidency of the Parliament on 30th December.<\/li>\n
          • Following an election process the Socialists and Democrats<\/strong> will announce their candidate for the Presidency of the Parliament on 7th December.<\/li>\n
          • The European People’s Party<\/strong>\u00a0will announce their candidate on 13th December.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Paul Nuttall<\/strong> was elected as the new leader of the UK Independence Party on 28th November with 62.6% of the vote.<\/p>\n
