About the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB)

The Challenge

The Rail Safety and Standard Board’s work to deliver a better and safer railway includes the management of its far-reaching research programme, which involves the collation and analysis of related data from across Great Britain.

Information gathered by the Board informs its UK members, but also forms the basis of guidance provided to other industries and rail-related organisations across the world as part of its Affiliation programme.

The dedicated research required to find future stakeholders is just one challenge – the first step – of the work RSSB undertakes.

It is important to monitor the actions, discussions, changes in attitude and ongoing research within the political and public space to engage current and new members with knowledge and ideas for development and improvement of Britain’s rail.

The Rail Safety and Standards Board wanted:

• Oversight over real-time change in policy, opinion and approach happening across Government, Parliament and the public sphere
• Access to information on relevant stakeholders in the rail industry
• The delivery and analysis of information related to its aims and business plan for the next five years
• Social media monitoring as well as tailored content gathered from traditional media sources

RSSB were sceptical that a single platform could meet their needs.

They specifically wanted to discover and engage with new contacts across the UK’s Parliaments, Government departments and among council leaders, special advisers, council chief executives and their staffers.
