Analysing media coverage of A-Level Results Day: Who shaped the narrative?
Results day remains one of the most closely watched and reported moments in the UK news cycle each year. Between 1 and 18 August 2026, the vast majority of A-level results day coverage occurred on the day itself (60%), with pre-pandemic and post-pandemic results drawing particular attention.
This report from the Vuelio Insights team examines how this year’s story developed, and who shaped the narrative.
Inside the report, you’ll find:
- How coverage evolved across the 18-day period, from early previews of what to expect to the results-day records and subsequent analysis
- Which universities, independent schools, college groups and further education colleges secured the greatest media share of voice, and the stories behind their coverage
- The themes that drove conversation, including how the pandemic, the cost of university, and the case for apprenticeships and technical alternatives were reflected in coverage, and where regional inequality was most pronounced across the country, with commentary from UCAS chief executive Jo Saxton and Prime Minister Andy Burnham
