Top 10 UK Music Blogs

January 13, 2021/7 Comments/in PR Pulse, Top Ten Blogs, Social Media Index, Blogger, Influencers Top Ten Blogs /by Holly Hodges

Last updated 13/01/2021

Vuelio uses a proprietary algorithm to create these rankings, based on topic-related content in blogs on its system – you can read more about the process here. Our research team actively seeks out new blogs and bloggers for inclusion, but if you think we’ve missed someone, please get in touch to let us know.

1. That Grape Juice

We’re still sipping on That Grape Juice, as are fans of its updates on urban pop culture worldwide. Since launching in February 2007, this blog’s content has been sampled by publications including The Independent, BBC 1 Xtra, MTV and Billboard. For reviews, news, music, entertainment and celeb interviews, grab a glass and let your cup runneth over – latest servings include updates from Azealia Banks, Ashanti, Keyshia Cole and Brandy.

2. Popjustice

Only right and justified, Popjustice stays high up in this ranking. Treating pop with the respect it deserves, here ‘high quality pop journalism [is] guaranteed’ with the promise of ‘nothing but bangers’. Originally dreamt-up in May 2000 by music journo Peter Robinson, the blog started its journey to become what it is today in 2002 with the launch of its first front page blog The Briefing, so the legend goes. Stay briefed on what’s new (and old-but-good) in pop here.

3. UKF

Forged from the combination of UKF Dubstep and UKF Drum & Bass YouTube channels is UKF’s network of bass music-focused media, including events, podcasts and channels galore. For the best of drum & bass YouTube, live streams, mixes, playlists and new albums, check out the UKF team’s careful curation. Recent choice cuts include a feature on Starz & Deeza, a convo with IMANU and a get-to-know-you chat with KillBreak (well worth killing some time with).

4. A&R Factory

While we’re all stuck staying as socially distanced as possible inside during Lockdown 3, music industry pros need look no further than the A&R Factory blog to find new independent music. Picking out the finest of listenables for the music PRs, management companies, radio stations, podcasts and record labels that stan for the blog (there are many), A&R Factory knows what’s good. And if you’re a wannabe rock/pop/acid jazz star, submit your tracks to the team (much easier than sneaking on to The Masked Singer).

Reach-the-right-influencers-with-the-Vuelio-media-database

5. XS Noize

Letting out the perfect amount of noise when it comes to music genres of all kinds is XS Noize. Based in Northern Ireland, but reaching eyes and ears across the globe, the XS Noize team is an ‘independent international consortium of opinionated music lovers’ offering their takes on new releases, the classics, live performances (over video at the moment, mostly, we presume) and ‘tracks of the day’. Seize the day and tune in.

6. GoldFlakePaint

This gold-standard music blog for independent music journal Gold Flake Paint is where to go for music-related musings you may not find being published or posted in other muso-focused fare. Discover performers and artists like Kelly Lee Owens, Renee Ree, Sarah Mary Chadwick and Anna McClellan, and also decide which LPs to pick up from the team’s selection of 25 of the best from 2020.

7. We Plug GOOD Music

Just GOOD things are happening over at We Plug GOOD Music, where ‘new and emerging music from all over the world’ is being showcased. Recent features include very thorough and detailed rundowns of all the best music released last year; reviews take in the latest from Ava Max and Phoebe Bridgers; and WPGM Commentary and WPGM Interviews catch up with artists including AKS and Reekado Banks.

8. STW

For ‘The In Sounds From Way Out’, STW (AKA Stamp The Wax) has it sorted. Check out the latest in the channels New Music, Mixes, Stamp TV, Features, Lists, News and Radio, and, if you want to avoid music you really don’t want to read about, you can even break the content down/pick and choose by genre. Disco, Hip-Hop, House/Broken Beat/Garage, Jazz and New Wave/Experimental are just some of the sounds being covered right now.

9. Little Indie

Stepping onto our Top 10 Music Blogs stage for the very first time is Little Indie, a ‘little blog about indie stuff and emerging music in the indie genre’. Previously picked for The Guardian’s ‘Blog Of The Week’, this UK-based blog takes a global view of what’s new in indie. What the team are bigging-up at the moment – new music from Jilian Medford, Hockeysmith, Black Honey and shame.

10. The Playground

For a neutral space where both music fans and music pros working in the industry can meet, The Playground is here for things both work-related and play (also: lots of music goodness). Read up on the blog’s Latest News, Interview, Reviews, Festivals and Mixes content. Particularly good news covered by The Playground this week – ‘American Dr. Anthony Fauchi proposes live music will return in Autumn’ (sounds really good to us).

1. The Runner Beans

If you’re full of beans (or maybe just Christmas selection box chocolate) and ready to get going on New Year’s Resolutions to run for sport, pleasure or fitness, The Runner Beans is a good place to start. While marathons won’t be a feature of Lockdown 3, safe and solo running can be – registered dietitian/marathon runner/travel enthusiast Charlie has advice on Running, Nutrition and Travel (for when journeys can go further than the local racetrack or park).

2. Keep it simpElle

Winner of the Best Health and Fitness category at the Online Influence Awards 2020, Elle Linton is set to continue winning in 2021 when it comes to sharing tips on cycling, running, nutrition and much more. Loving to ‘sweat, cycle and run’, the blogger aims to provide an ‘online fitness studio, fav smoothie bar and weekly health magazine all rolled into one’, which is going to be particularly useful over the next few months – thank you in advance, Elle!

3. The5krunner

‘Triathlon, Duathlon, Training & Tech’ is what’s on offer at The5krunner blog, written by a mysterious – but presumably very fit – fan of running. Having done ‘quite well’ with multi-sports, this blogger started to share their experiences to help other fitness fans with training regimes, diet and related technology, and it’s working out really well – ‘It takes a fair amount of time. A labour of love. Sleep is for wimps’. After making sure you get a good night of sleep yourself, check this blog out.

Zanna Van Dijk

4. Zanna Van Dijk

This ‘blogger with a purpose’ also happens to be an entrepreneur, business owner, personal trainer and ocean lover, making her eponymous blog on health, sustainability, travel and lifestyle one worth reading. 9. Be Healthy Now

Being healthy is of particular importance now in 2021 – luckily blogger Petra is offering healthy lifestyle and natural living help over at Be Healthy Now. 10. Lessons in Badassery

And with the start of the new year comes the need for a levelling-up in badassery – for Lessons in Badassery blogger Katie, this means a combination of sport and adventure with quality reads about ‘amazing, inspirational women’. Top 10 Top 10 Blog Rankings of 2020

December 9, 2020/0 Comments/in PR Pulse, Top Ten Blogs, Social Media Index, Top 10 Top 10s, Top Lists, Influencers Top Ten Blogs /by Phoebe-Jane Boyd

As we approach the latter stages of 2020, we look back at the best of this year’s UK blog rankings based on the number of unique visits.

Just as everyone’s priorities have had to change this year, the most popular blog ranking topics have switched around since those early days of Before March 2020. Here’s what’s captured our interests, including good eats, nice interiors, comfy indoor clothes and much musing over politics.

1. Top 10 Food Blogs (+1)
Sustenance – always vital – is even more important this year, as we’ve occasionally struggled to source what we need from supermarkets, from bread flour, to fresh fruit, to fancy ice cream flavours that became scarce during lockdown. Top 10 food blogs is the number one visited ranking this year, and no doubt helped with those dalgona coffee and banana bread recipes.

2. Top 10 Interior Design Blogs
Spending a lot more time indoors has resulted in a rise in interior decorating – because who wants to stare at the scuffed walls for months on end? The top 10 interior design blogs, a ranking staying at number 2 in this list, provided much needed inspiration when walking around IKEA or stroking carpet swatches wasn’t possible.

3. Top 20 Fashion Blogs (+3)
Whether sitting down to watch Tiger King again, or heading out for a Government-sanctioned fitness outing, finding the right fashion fit became a bigger priority this year. Our fashion ranking rose three places and included ‘slow’ and sustainable fashion, highstreet and highbrow, and affordable, budget-friendly comfies.

4. Top 10 Music Blogs (+4)
Also more popular this year was music, with the top 10 providing ideas for lockdown playlists and good shouts for festive party music, too. Urban, pop, independent, alternative, dubstep, death metal and emerging artists – a plethora of genres featured. Not much Medieval Folk Rock or Country Truck Driving Music this year, but maybe in 2021…

5. Top 10 Vlogs (New Entry)
Mukbangs when you want to share a meal with somebody, beauty tutorials if you need advice with applying winged eyeliner or just a catch-up on life stuff with an influencer you like and follow – vlogs continue to rise in popularity, and reach the midpoint of our rankings ranking this year.

Struggling to reach influencers? Try the Vuelio media database and get access to Bloggers in Travel, Food, Lifestyle & more.

6. Top 10 Beauty Blogs (-3)
Self-care was a good hobby to take up in 2020, and the (bb) cream of the crop when it comes to beauty have been busy shopping their stashes, reviewing new releases and advising on how to look less tired and zombie-like when on a video call with colleagues, friends and family.

7. Top 10 London Lifestyle Blogs (New Entry)
Before Tier 2 times, finding the best of what’s happening in the UK capital was already a challenge – the top London Lifestyle blogs continue to be reliable resources for having a good time. As the world changed, so did London, and its bloggers adapted to feature socially distanced socialising and enjoyment.

8. Top 10 Political Blogs (New Entry)
Letting politics pass you by was no longer a possible privilege this year as the decisions of governments across the world were watched carefully. Writing from a variety of political backgrounds and stances, the top UK politics-focused blogs kept us informed with detailed coverage.

9. Top 10 Gardening Blogs (New Entry)
For those lucky enough to have access to a garden, or a window ledge planter, gardening – along with baking and beauty – is a hobby that helped many through the harder parts of 2020. Colourful flowers, fruit and vegetables, or herbs – gardening grew in popularity, and enters our top 10.

10. Top 10 Men’s Fashion Blogs (-3)
And finally, our most popular rankings ranking this year ends with more fashion. Though falling three places, the men’s fashion blog community has many fans across the world – and rightfully so, with all the tips for luxury, bespoke, every day, budget-beautiful and casual wear being shared by its top bloggers. Thank you to them for making opening the door to food deliveries more stylish this year.

Start out with a trip through posts on Karen’s holidays in Barbados and across the US as well as UK-based staycations, and when all that virtual travel has made you suitably hungry, check out her twists on traditional bakes and cooking – retro school dinner iced tray bake cake, anyone?

8. My Fussy Eater

Get the fussy eaters in your life to clear their plates, fuss-free, with My Fussy Eaters’ deep backlog of tempting recipes. Blogger Ciara knows the struggle of getting a good meal together for someone with limited food likes, having started this blog in 2014 to record the results of her attempts with her daughter Aoife. Grab recipes by category (slow cooker recipes, meals catalogued by cooking time, one pot recipes and how to hide veg to give your fussy friends/fam a balanced diet) or by diet (whether no gluten, dairy, egg, nut, meat or fish) – no fuss needed.

9. That Girl Cooks Healthy

That girl of That Girl Cooks Healthy is Charla – a Caribbean food fan who also happens to be a certified health coach. That means a blog filled with heavenly gluten and dairy-free recipes alongside modern takes on popular Caribbean recipes with healthy alternatives. For food ideas, check out her Recipe Index for treats including vegan pumpkin fritters and Cuban black beans, and once you’ve had your fill, look after yourself by heading to the Health Guidance channel – the Ways to Stay Healthy Over the Christmas Period is definitely one to browse and bookmark.

10. Greedy Gourmet

‘Always thinking of the next meal’ is Greedy Gourmet’s Michelle, whose love of traveling, good natural homemade food, puzzles, games and family led her to figuring out the food blogging business back in 2007, to great success. This multi-award-winning blog aims to showcase the best that’s out there when it comes to food while being mindful of dietary requirements and offering substitutions and possible customisations where needed. Whether you fancy new takes on your fave meals, or something more ‘offbeat and exotic’, Greedy Gourmet is here to ‘open your mind to a whole new world of ethnic dishes steeped in history’.

To have a cry… Group hug?’).

8. Lux Life London

Lux Life London is where Catherine Lux shares the luxurious side of life as she makes the most of being back in London after time living over in Australia. Our research team actively seeks out new blogs and bloggers for inclusion, but if you think we’ve missed someone, please get in touch to let us know.

1. The Runner Beans

If you’re full of beans and ready to take part in this year’s reimagined London Marathon (or just quite like running as a hobby or sport), keep pace with Charlie Watson at The Runner Beans, who tops our UK running blog ranking for another year. Charlie started blogging about training for her first marathon in 2011 and, many runs later, has drawn a huge audience of fellow fans who like running for fitness and fun. As well as running, Charlie regularly covers active travel, healthy and protein-filled meals to keep you going, and even reviews of treadmills for when it’s raining and you don’t fancy pounding the pavement outdoors.

2. the5krunner

The enigmatic blogger behind the5krunner regularly produces a non-mainstream media take on all the top triathlon & running tech available to those interested in the sport, from trackers to apps, deep tissue massagers and sporty sunglasses. Along with reviews, industry news and recommendations, there are also links to training plans, coaching, deals and discounts, and advice on socially-distanced runs. A recent running update from the5krunner’s own regular regime: ‘Today was windy. Today was a ‘rest day’ (hah). Today was a day for running up some hills on paths and on dirt’. If running through wind, rain or shine is your thing, run (don’t walk) to go check this one out.

3. Keep it simpElle

Sound familiar? Elle is also a favourite in all-round fitness circles, blogging about general keep-fit fun alongside running (Elle also happens to be one of our Top 10 UK Fitness & Exercise bloggers). This blogger and fitness pro aims to provide ‘the professional insight into health and fitness that we all need’, which means simple and straight-forward advice and ideas for those who enjoy keeping active or want to know more about the fitness industry (‘the jobs, the businesses, the technology… or just behind the scenes’) itself. Some of Elle’s latest posts – making movement a part of everyday life and branding yourself as a fitness professional.

4. The Fat Girls’ Guide to Running

Discovering a love of running at the same time as blogging is what has kept Julie Creffield’s The Fat Girls’ Guide to Running going so steady and successfully. Started as a place for posting updates on training for her first marathon for family and friends, the blog has since attracted a whole community of plus-size women who run. ‘It is time for us Fat Girls to stand together and be counted in the mainstream running world, so put your trainers on,’ says Julie, who has even done a Tedx talk on her story. Recently celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the blog, Julie has come a long way (even further than a 10k race will take you).

5. The PhD Runner

You don’t need an official higher education-level qualification in health, fitness or wearing breathable lycra to start on your running journey, as shown by Emma Neachell at The PhD Runner. This self-described ‘mediocre and somewhat injury-prone runner’ who is ‘gradually getting slower’ shares her adventures and misadventures alike while pushing herself out of her comfort zone and encouraging others to do the same. Find race reports, recommendations for running-related products, tips for newbies just starting out and updates on Emma’s own training and progress. Join Emma as she ‘tries out new things and takes on new running challenges’.

6. John Kynaston’s ultra running diary

John Kynaston’s goal is to run 100 ultras by his 70th birthday – if you want to keep track of how he’s doing, stay on course with where John’s at in his journey on the ultra running diary. His goals for 2020 are posted right at the top of the blog (so there’s no stopping or stalling here) and content is split into Ultra Races, Training, Guess My Time, Triple Crown & other ultra pbs, Lakeland 100, LOVEultras videos and Live Interviews. Someone to look up to, and to try to keep up with, when it comes to running to achieve your goals, John managed to run a total of 147.84 miles during August – go get inspiration for your own runs, or live vicariously through John’s, if that’s more your speed.

7. Lazy Girl Running

Laura Fountain is certainly not what we’d call lazy, having created her blog to encourage more people to the hobby of running and make it a more inclusive and welcoming space for everyone. As a qualified personal trainer as well as an author and freelance journalist, Laura knows her stuff when it comes to getting the most out of running, whatever level of fitness you’re starting from. In fact, if you’re a complete newcomer to running, start at the very beginning with support from this blog along the way – read from the How to Run section, through to Your First 10k, straight to Run a Marathon (which is perfect timing for this Sunday).

8. Susie Chan Endurance Runner

If you’re into running social media and magazines, Susie may already be very familiar to you, having been named as the ‘number 1 runner to follow on Instagram’ by both Runners World and the Evening Standard, and having featured in publications including Women’s Running and Athletics Weekly. Susie is an endurance runner, which entails taking on races from one to 100 miles – something she’s been doing for around ten years now. Her blog is where she chronicles new races and the challenges of training for them – recent posts focus on the importance of recovery time and even hallucinating while running (which must be where the recovery comes in).

9. The Bunny Runs

‘Challenge your limits,’ says Becca, who is passionate about running, cycling, swimming and triathlon after losing a third of her weight following teenage battles with obesity. With a PhD in Environmental Science, this blogger is also interested in the links between sustainability, running and sport, not just sustaining a good pace. With This Bunny Runs, Becca hopes to encourage others who struggle with maintaining a healthy level of fitness to embrace running, walking, Zumba or a full marathon for happier and healthier lives. And if you’re wondering about the ‘bunny’ – Becca’s rabbit Poppy recently made an appearance on Twitter for National Pet Day (and looks like she’s a strong runner, too).

10. Trina Runs

And here is where we hit the finish line with Trina, who wants to help readers explore ‘their hidden runner’ with inspirational posts that campaign for a journey to ‘a healthy, more active life where honest fitness and well-being is more accessible to everyone without losing sight of the real lives we lead’. Trina enjoys documenting her runs, whether they go good or bad, meaning you get an honest and straight-forward account of what it really means to be a regular runner, pushing to 5k, 10k and beyond. Running for sport, fitness, a hobby or competition is, as they say, a marathon, not a sprint, and Trina is here to help you for the long haul towards a healthy and happy life.

Our research team actively seeks out new blogs and bloggers for inclusion, but if you think we’ve missed someone, please get in touch to let us know.

1. Menswear Style

Still very much in style when it comes to men’s lifestyle blogging is Menswear Style, founded back in April 2012 by Craig Landale. Now a leading digital publication for men looking for top lifestyle, fashion, style and grooming recommendations and round-ups, the blog aims to cover the latest runway collections, highlight the highstreet in its street style gallery and even give advice for getting the best deals when travelling by train or choosing your ideal road trip vehicle. Whether you’re heading out or staying in, in fact, Menswear Style has you covered for what to wear, what to do and how to keep feeling good (check out its recent post on the top five immune vitamins to try if you need a boost).

2. Ape to Gentleman

Launched in 2009 by Chris Beastall, Ape to Gentleman has evolved to become a super-successful lifestyle, style, grooming, hair, cars and watches blog for men with advice and tips from a team of expert contributors. Dedicated to ‘timeless yet contemporary style, intelligent living and value,’ the Ape to Gentleman even has a Ten Commandments of Menswear to adhere to if you don’t know where to start when evolving your own sense of style and the ‘manual to modern life’ that is the Lifestyle section. And with advice on topics like healthy home delivery, streaming services and the best sports documentaries, modern life (or at least, a good part of it) doesn’t have to be so confusing.

3. Man For Himself

And a familiar face, if you checked out last week’s UK Top 10 Beauty Blogs (or last year’s Men’s Lifestyle Blog ranking) is Robin James at Man For Himself. This blog and YouTube channel covers lifestyle, hair, grooming and fragrance for men developing their ‘own sense of self’ who are on the search for ‘the kind of products and experiences that work for them’. If you’re looking for a little lifestyle inspiration, check out Robin’s Lifestyle channel for food and drink, travel, fitness, wellbeing and opinion pieces. Look after yourself by upgrading your skincare routine, perusing Robin’s picks for sustainable watches, and read up on pioneering research into erectile dysfunction and strategies for maintaining mental wellbeing.

4. Carl Thompson

Having featured in publications like GQ and ShortList, Carl Thompson is well known in men’s lifestyle circles. His eponymous blog, and vlogging channel, are where he shares thoughts on style, grooming, travel, dating, cars, tech, fitness, business, food and drink, and much more. Most recently on the blog – luxury beauty advent calendars launching in time for this steadily-approaching festive season, fancy fountain pens as an accessory, vegan and cruelty free pet products for your dog and how to transform your home office. And as the founder of men’s fashion brand Hawkins & Shepherd, Carl knows what’s hot (and not) in fashion – see his critiques of Robert Downey Jr.’s style choices and Rami Malek’s predilection for patterned shirts.

5. The Everyday Man

Offering a ‘curated mix of all things fashion, fitness and lifestyle’ for men, The Everyday Man was launched in 2012 and has attracted many readers in need of online health, fitness, travel, fashion, technology, arts and culture, music, grooming and car content. Open and honest product reviews are the focus, as well as expert insight into top travel destinations and the world of fashion. Over in its Lifestyle Channel are celebrations of National Rum Punch Day (sorry if you missed it this year), pizza oven tests, earphone try outs and studies of the best hard seltzers now available in the UK – cheers!

6. Clothes Make The Man

This ‘extraordinary men’s blog for the modern man’ is all about the ‘ordinary’ kind of fella, as the blog’s ‘What’s it all about?’ page puts it (alongside a fitting quote from Mark Twain: ‘Naked people have little or no influence on society’). Feeling that the everyday guy on the street – ‘essentially me and you’ – haven’t had much of a voice when it comes to style and fashion, Clothes Make The Man’s Anthony McGrath aims to inform on all manner of matters that affect men, from clothes, grooming products, weekends away, film reviews and exhibitions, to all-round interesting things. ‘We will be your invaluable guide, your one stop, your good mate,’ promises the blogger, who also offers himself as an ‘agony Ant’ for readers in need of any extra advice.

7. Maketh The Man

Also helping to ‘make the man’ when it comes to living good and full lifestyles are co-editors Callum Watt and Anton Welcome at Maketh The Man, who share fashion, tech, going out, travel and style content with their readers. And what makes up the men behind this blog? Callum is the creator and chief editor, who loves a blazer and waist coat combo, and is the person to go to if you want to borrow a fine pair of brogues. And co-editor Anton Welcome is who to turn to for motorbike matters, fashion and food finds, and wine and spirit menus to sample. Additional contributors also add to the mix, which has moved beyond its original focus on male jewellery and has grown to be a top lifestyle blog for men in the UK.

8. Average Joes

Certainly not average is Average Joes, an independent lifestyle magazine for men covering topics including technology, autos, style, culture, sport, health, travel and food. Brother to sister site Average Janes, Average Joes aims to ‘bring the world’ to its readers’ digital devices, sharing ‘honest and timely’ updates. Originally launched as a hobby, the site was acquired by Green Seven Media this year and has a team of ‘talented and somewhat troubled’ contributors posting their aspirational and informative best. Check out the nicest cars, craft brews, gaming launches, villa getaways and even how to deal with everyday issues like beard dandruff.

9. Adil Musa

Adil Musa’s blog is a space for all things food, lifestyle, travel, events and attractions which are guaranteed to ‘make your mouth water’. ‘Come and experience the journey with me, where I will take you on breathtaking adventures to exotic locations,’ says Adil, who has been busy checking out Middle-Eastern inspired cafes serving Arabic coffee and cakes in London, Bombay-inspired restaurants bringing Indian food to the capital, as well as recipes you can try at home for Nutella mug cake and the ubiquitous summer drink sensation of dalgona coffee – this time in the form of rose dalgona milk (sounds delicious, and definitely worthy of some mouth watering).

10. The Joey Journal

Insights on lifestyle for ‘discerning tastemakers’ is what you’ll find over at The Joey Journal, which covers subjects ranging from style, watches and grooming to all aspects of modern life for men. Joey and his team aim to keep an eye on important industry events across the world, like Fashion Week, as well as reflecting the ‘bustle of cosmopolitan lives’ and ‘wanderlust travel’. Relatable everyday style is a focus here – mixing up mainstays and newer pieces to look and feel great with fashion, without breaking the bank. ‘For me, it’s more about personal style rather than lavishly following trends,’ says Joey – go and check out his recommendations for living well.

5. Jasmine Talks Beauty

By day, Manchester-born but Birmingham-based Jasmine is a commercial insurance underwriter, but by other-times-during-the-day (and evening and probably night, too) she’s a beauty blogger, sharing recs for all budgets, along with some lifestyle and fashion content. While sitting down with your makeup bag and getting ready with friends has had to be digital for a while, Jasmine hopes to recreate the feeling on her blog, posting her thoughts on a variety of products and treatments you can try at home. 7. Brown Beauty Talk

Relaunched this year in June, this website was originally established in 2014 to connect Black and Asian women in the UK with beauty brands. Now focusing on beauty news, features and beauty industry pros, the platform is led by editor Ronke Adeyemi. ‘While we appreciate that there are more important things going on in the world, we have created this space so our readers can get lost in the magical world of beauty,’ say the BBT team. Particularly useful posts to get lost in right now – the future of beauty retail post-COVID, getting your makeup to pop with a mask, and lots of Black-owned British beauty brands to dip into.

Gemma Etc

8. Gemma Etc.

The former Miss Makeup Magpie started blogging in 2012 and has since changed up her focus alongside the blog name, adding general lifestyle features alongside the beauty posts. But beauty is still where Gemma’s passion lies – ‘Gemma Etc. will always be mainly a beauty blog – beauty is, and always will be, my number one love’. Both positive and negative reviews get an airing here, as honesty is also of utmost importance to Gemma – ‘nobody can like everything so while there will be products I don’t enjoy, I always try to keep my posts as balanced as possible while being thorough, too.’

3. The Learning Spy

There’s no need to don camo and go undercover to find out what’s happening in modern education – David Didau created The Learning Spy in 2011 to share the struggles of everyday teachers as well as his own classroom successes and failures. Staying busy over the summer, this blogger has also been streaming webinars as part of his Learning Spy Academy – catch up on subjects including ‘Building a Reading Culture’ and ‘Intelligent Accountability: how to ensure teachers thrive’.

5. The Action Hero Teacher

Flying in to save the day when it comes to making classroom management simple is The Action Hero Teachers’ founder Karl Pupé, a qualified Primary, Secondary and Further Education teacher specialising in behaviour management. Teachers looking to take back control of their classroom don’t need a cape to become heroic for their students – Karl runs workshops, has authored The Action Hero Teacher: Classroom Management Made Simple and blogs advice on subjects including how to help children who struggle to listen (and Arnie quotes that will make you a better teacher).

6. The Confident Teacher

Having spent 15 years as an English teacher and school leader, teacher and blogger Alex Quigley is now National Content Manager at the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), a regular columnist for education magazines and author of books for creating confident teachers. 7. Kat Howard @saysmiss

Here is where Northamptonshire-based senior leader Katherine Howard ‘muses over aspects of the education profession’ that interest her, in between writing for a variety of other publications, delivering workshops around research-informed practice, managing teacher workload and wellbeing, and much more. 8. FunkyPedagogy

Offering relatable videos and blog posts to help students get through their GCSEs, Miss Cole aims to help educate young people in the 21st century with new projects including ‘One World, Many Voices’, showcasing the work of black people and other marginalised groups.

∼1 to 10∼

1. Slummy Single Mummy

Moving into the top spot is Slummy Single Mummy, AKA Jo, AKA perhaps ‘the best mummy blog in the TA1 postal code area’ (who are we to disagree?). This blog is celebrated way beyond TA1, having won multiple awards and amassed a huge readership looking for recipes, food features, interiors, money and travel. You can also find rants – subjects recently tackled in the dedicated section include buckets (which have started randomly appearing in Jo’s garden from nowhere over the last few weeks), mustering enthusiasm to keep busy during lockdown and even Gwyneth Paltrow. She has also launched ‘Untold Stories’, giving a platform for other parents to anonymously tell the stories that may be difficult or cover taboo subjects.

Slummy Single Mummy

Honest Mum

2. Honest Mum

Also moving up a spot in the Parenting Top 20 is blogger, vlogger, presenter, author, parenting expert, former TV and film director and honestly-incredibly-busy Vicki of Honest Mum. Making time for healthy meals, Vicki shares quick and easy ideas to help her readers keep their families fed with good food – recommendations over the last week have been no bake vegan dark chocolate rice crispy cakes, baklava, tabbouleh salad, etc. – and advice from experts, too. Never shying away from sharing the harder parts of family life, either, Vicki is refreshingly honest about soap-opera-style family talks at the dinner table. Honestly, this blog is worth a look.

3. What the Redhead said

What the Redhead says: ‘The future’s bright, the future’s ginger’. What we say: Donna’s blog has moved up a spot in this ranking since last year, and continues to engage her huge readership of parents with quality family-focused content. Celebrating simple family days out at the park and more, the blog has chronicled trips taken with husband Dave and children Athena and Troy over the summer so far, showing fresh air and fun can be found even during difficult and socially-distanced times. And if you’re heading out to the park with your own family, Donna can help with packed lunches – check out her recipe for salted caramel slow cooker fudge.

What the Redhead said

4. Mum In The Madhouse

If your home has been a madhouse over the last few months, Jen Walshaw – the Mum In The Madhouse – can relate. She can also recommend ideas for keeping kids busy when things are particularly crazy – find Seasonal ideas, things to create In The Kitchen, what to make in Arts & Crafts, Activities to try and advice with Parenting. The kids aren’t the only ones under the roof looking for things to do, however – Jen also shares calming ideas for parents themselves when there’s some downtime (or it’s past the kids’ bedtime), including adult colouring sheets and books, printable grocery lists and no-sew face mask patterns.

5. Dad Blog UK

Self-styled school-run dad John Adams officially stepped into the role of main carer for his children in 2011. At Dad Blog UK, fatherhood, parenting, family and lifestyle are covered along with his own experiences as a dad. Giving a 360-view of modern fatherhood and the issues fathers are likely to face, the blog also regularly features experts in interviews on important topics. From over the last month – catch up on Natasha Devon MBE discussing mental health, DR Jasmine Kelland talking parents in the pandemic and Lee Sands sharing the realities of being a stepdad.

Dad Blog UK

Mudpie Fridays

6. Mudpie Fridays

The adventures being shared by blogger Clare at Mudpie Fridays are good for any day during summer (weather permitting). Days with her children Monkey and Kipper – by proxy nom de plumes, perhaps – are chronicled in Our Adventures in Pictures, reviews of places to visit, road trips, gift guides and boredom breakers. Also great for banishing boredom on those days where you’re stuck inside is the blog’s Playtime & Craft section – find free play, footprinting, bakes, costumes, growing your own crystals, and trash to treasure. Basically, find experiences to treasure, for whatever day of the week.

7. Boo Roo and Tigger Too

Sometimes a family has to venture beyond the realms of The Hundred Acre Wood to find further adventure and sustenance, and Boo (that’s blogger Sarah), Roo, Tigger and Piglet (that’s Sarah’s children) know where to find it and can show you, too. Sections on Family Life (including Life in Lockdown and their Monthly Goals), Home & Garden, Lifestyle (Cleaning, Fashion, Finance, Recipes and Wellbeing, Parenting (Baby & Toddler and Teenagers) and Travel cover the essentials for the fam, and Sarah’s regular What I’m Kindle Reading feature cover the quieter times for the adults.

Boo Roo and Tigger Too

Rainy Day Mum

8. Rainy Day Mum

While we’re in the midst of the often unpredictable British summer, Cerys at Rainy Day Mum has activities galore for days indoors. Born out of Cerys’ idea to do an activity together each day as a family in her own home, the blog now shares ideas for crafting, cooking and learning for families everywhere. The blog has activities and craft ideas for kids across every age group – Baby, Toddler, Pre-school and School Kids – and across different formats, too. Gardening, sensory play, cooking, singing and learning about science and nature – whatever the weather, indoors or outside, Rainy Day Mum will have something to try.

9. KiddyCharts

High up on the charts for UK Parenting blogs is this ‘helping hand for your little stars’. Originally founded in 2012 by Helen Neale, this social enterprise blog aims to offer parents free resources to help them on their family journey. Parents can download reward charts, free printables and advice for potty training, eating, and general parenting tips as well as product reviews for what’s worth investing in for the home. Things to invest in (well, for free!) now – back to school morning routine charts, free literacy worksheets and calming present moment wheels.

DIY Daddy

10. DIY Daddy

DIY Daddy is where blogger Nigel records the ‘trials and tribulations of bringing up five children whilst trying to maintain his sanity’ and shares DIY know-how from his 20 years of experience as a painter and decorator. Joints, timber and screws aren’t the only connecting foundations Nigel knows his way around, however – sections on the blog include Mental Health and Gender Issues and important subjects like the biggest causes of stress in men and the connection between mental states and physical pain are also covered. Whether you need help with putting up shelves, or looking after your children and yourself – DIY Daddy has the tools.

The Mental Elf

2. The Mental Elf

Also sticking in the same spot as last year’s top 10 is André Tomlin’s The Mental Elf. Started in 2011 for the sharing of research and reports regarding mental health, the blog has since expanded to include content from a team of experts across the world. Featuring info on diagnosis, mental health conditions and treatment with ‘no bias, no misinformation and no spin’, the team’s vision is to start open and honest conversations between patients, clinicians, researchers, carers, policy makers, health and social care professionals where everyone can learn. Each week, The Mental Elf scours over 500 sources including journals, websites and databases for new research to help speed up the search for what you need.

3. Evidently Cochrane

Making healthcare and health policy accessible and understandable to everyone is what Sarah Chapman has been doing at Evidently Cochrane since its start in September 2012. As a former registered general nurse, Sarah and her team of guest bloggers are here to help their readers – patients, carers and anyone making big health-related decisions – by ‘sharing health evidence you can trust’ and reviews of research from the medical field. Particularly useful is the blog’s focus on explaining what can sometimes be complicated medical terminology as well as insight from those who have lived experience of the conditions being discussed.

talkhealth

4. talkhealth blog

A personal struggle to find adequate eczema support back in 2000 saw the beginning of talkhealth. Since then, the platform has grown its army of bloggers to cover everything from mental health to exercising with MS. While the site looks to empower people to take charge of their own health – whatever their chronic condition – the blog aims to provide an insight into the day-to-day lives of people living with certain issues. It also features comments from medical experts, health news and company updates.

5. The Hippocratic Post

Younger than its Hippocratic Oath namesake by… many more years than we can count, The Hippocratic Post has been connecting health professionals and students across international boundaries since its creation by founders Thea Jourdan, Carole Stone and Jane Johnson. The interactive site welcomes its visitors to post comments, take part in its online polls and contribute their own posts for consideration, but also features writing from high-profile medical professionals and professors from prestigious institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard. With news from across the world, this blog keeps its readers up to date on the latest medical research (which has certainly come a long way since 370 BC).

The Hippocratic Post

Same Difference

6. Same Difference

Beyond medical trials, studies and evidence, Same Difference from Sarah Ismail focuses on the side of health and disability that’s often ignored – its portrayal in the media, and the progression of rights for people with disabilities. Featuring news, views and information, the blog highlights campaigns the public can support, encourages debate on subjects including parenting and inclusion, and posts reports released about the treatment of disabled people. Recently shared with readers – a study on helping school returns for children with educational needs, a modelling agency fighting body fascism and the extra difficulties faced by wheelchair users while travelling.

7. What Allergy?

As allergy season is here once more, those suffering through summer with tissues and antihistamines at the ready can school up on how to treat (or just cope with) what ails them at Ruth Holroyd’s What Allergy? Born from Ruth’s research during her own allergy journey in 2009, this free-from blog features articles, opinion pieces, advice and tips for living with the daily challenges of allergies, eczema and asthma. As someone allergic to nuts, dairy (cow, sheep and goat), soya, wheat, latex, nickel, dust, pollen and animal dander herself, Ruth lives her subject and encourages her readers to live their lives to the full, even when things get tough.

What Allergy?

Psychreg

8. Psychreg

This platform for psychology-focused news and resources was originally founded by Dennis Relojo-Howell in March 2014 as a directory for those interested in the subject. Its community has since grown from strength to strength due to its useful articles on new advances in the field, advice on how to deal with the issues that impact its readership and stories shared from those dealing with mental health issues. As well as blog posts, Psychreg produces its own podcast and open access journal, and visitors can check out the Psychreg Index and its Gratis Index, which shares full-accessible content from Psychology journals that don’t have a publication fee.

9. Life in a Break Down

New to our top 10 UK Healthcare Blogs is Midlands-based Sarah, who shares general lifestyle features alongside her experiences with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, hypermobility syndrome, keratoconus and mental health issues. Sarah focuses on the good things in life here, and while you may find the odd rant about things she ‘doesn’t find great’ and ‘saying things that need to be said’, this blogger has created a positive place for her readers. In the Mental and Physical Health Issues Channel, you’ll find realistic posts about her journey as well as useful advice.

Be Healthy Now

10. Be Healthy Now

While Being Healthy Now has been a big challenge for a lot of us during lockdown, Petra Kavos is here with ideas for living a healthier life. This natural living and health lifestyle blog shares natural health remedies, healthy recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert, as well as natural beauty and fitness features. Petra’s holistic approach to life includes avoiding everyday toxins and pollution and choosing organic where possible. While lockdown has helped with the first two on that list, this blog can help with the rest and more – check out recent posts on healthy air in the home, heart-healthy diets and the benefits of exercising with music.

1. Inthefrow

Multi-award-winning blogger Victoria Magrath stays seated right at the front when it comes to women’s fashion. Sharing what’s good from the frow (that’s f-row/front row, by the way) on the blog since late 2012, Victoria has also completed a PhD in the subject, published the best-selling book The New Fashion Rules and teamed up with brands like Dyson Hair, Dior Makeup and Armani Beauty for ambassadorships. It’s not all about what’s worth wearing for Victoria, though – her success has enabled her to work with charities she’s passionate about, most recently the British Red Cross during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fashion Foie Gras

2. Fashion Foie Gras

Staying in the same spot is Emily Johnston’s Fashion Foie Gras, which has been serving the tastiest tailoring available since its launch in 2009. Daily fashion news was the original aim for the blog, which has since evolved into a personal account of Emily’s life in travel, food, but mostly, fashion. And while this blogger is London-based, America is where she hails from, meaning readers get a mix of what’s hot in the UK capital as well as places like Beaufort, Charleston or Savannah over the pond. Also well-travelled when it comes to writing, Emily has featured in publications including Cosmopolitan, Glamour and HELLO!.

3. Zoella

A familiar name to anyone who’s had an internet connection during the last decade is Zoella – influencer supreme, and the woman behind the third blog in our Women’s Fashion ranking. Regularly sharing trends, launches and ideas for fashion in the blog’s Style section, the Zoella team are here to help brighten up your wardrobe. Catch up with the Weekly Wants feature for how to style shoulder tops, what to wear to the beer garden (apart from a face mask, naturally) and the best Bermuda shorts. Yes, they really are back in fashion – it’s time to invest in a pair.

Raindrops of Sapphire

4. Raindrops of Sapphire

Showering her fashionista fans with inspiration for what to wear is Lorna Burford, who also happens to have a sideline in denim, being the blogger behind The Jeans Blog as well. Here, Lorna shares her outfits for every season as well as beauty, bags, shoes, wellies, sunglasses, watches, what’s new, gift guides and advice. Particularly useful for the current season, and the rising temperature that comes with it, is her 20 favourite summer outfits, and four different looks for day to night-time (Bermuda shorts are not featured in any of them, you may be glad to hear…).

5. Disneyrollergirl

On the roll since launching this blog in 2007 is Navaz Batliwalla, the girl posting ‘observations and opinions on the culture of fashion’ at Disneyrollergirl. No-nonsense fashion is the focus here, Navaz utilizing all of her experience in the industry to keep things practical and honest when recommending fits for her followers. Aiming to be a ‘go-to resource’ for industry insights on fashion and beauty as well as trends emerging in editorial shoots, Navaz shares what’s on her radar in the shops (online, and etc.), as well as photoshoots and video. And why Disneyrollergirl for the name? It’s ‘a hybrid of my favourite Beach Boys song Disney Girls, and my obsession with 70s roller-skating nostalgia’.

Powder Rooms

6. Powder Rooms

Formerly known as What Emma Did, Powder Rooms is now a hub for UK lifestyle, wellness, beauty, self-care and, YES, fashion. Based in Manchester, but written for women across the world, the blog from makeup artist Emma Campbell shares in-depth features, product reviews and how-to guides. How to stay on trend this summer according to Emma? Gold jewellery, cats-eye sunglasses, loungewear and luxury watches. And with slow fashion starting to pip past fast fashion in popularity, longevity is also covered at the Powder Rooms – read up on Emma’s choices for versatile pieces for Summer 2020 and beyond.

7. That’s Not My Age

The birth of this blog was in 2008, but age isn’t important for Alyson Walsh, who launched That’s Not My Age to cater to ‘every woman who refuses to be invisible’. This author, former magazine fashion editor and freelance journalist’s space for celebrating women of all ages packs a lot into its Style section – Inspiration, Style For All Ages, What Women Wear and Expert Style Advice. What works in real life is what’s advised by Alyson – finding the clothes and accessories that will work hard for her readers in the day-to-day rather than what happens to feature on the cover of magazines, in viral Instagram posts or on the catwalk.

That's Not My Age

Not Dressed As Lamb

8. Not Dressed As Lamb

Not dressing as lamb, but help with dressing in a way that suits you best is what’s on offer at Catherine Summers’ Not Dressed As Lamb. Sticking in the same spot for this year’s Women’s Fashion ranking, this blog is for everyone who’s ever asked themselves ‘who wants to be “age appropriate”, anyway?’ ‘Occasion appropriate’ is what’s always in season for Catherine, who has a tendency to wear bright colours and mix her patterns. In fact, the self-styled ‘Queen of Clash’ recently shared her birthday outfit in a post for going ‘out-out’ – Clashing Summer Prints and Bold Colours (inspiration for everyone currently enjoying putting outfits together from what’s left in the wardrobe).

9. Lydiaelisemillen.com

Blogger and vlogger Lydia launched her ‘corner of the internet’ during her final year of uni to help get her through her dissertation. Finding it an ideal outlet for her creativity and love of fashion, Lydia has grown and changed alongside the blog – these days readers can find snapshots from her daily life, beauty essentials and outfits. Encouraging interaction with her audience, Lydia asks for their take on fashion as well as providing them with advice – ‘do I purchase the sage dress of dreams or do I accept my fate?’ Go check out her recent post on white vs sage dream dresses and let her know what you think.

Curiously Conscious

10. Curiously Conscious

Sustainability should be in fashion for every time of year and occasion, and if you’re both conscious of what it takes to live a more clean and ethnical life and are curious about how to extend that to what you wear, Besma’s blog is for you. Low-impact lifestyle, clean beauty and sustainable fashion is the focus, as blogger Besma believes that ‘care for people and the planet is just as important as how effective a product is and its price tag’. As what we all consider important has drastically changed over the last few months, being aware of the journey the clothes we choose to wear have taken has become a much bigger concern for many of us. Curiously Conscious will help with making the most of the clothes you have, and with continuing to invest in fashion that will last long past lockdown.

Our research team actively seeks out new blogs and bloggers for inclusion, but if you think we’ve missed someone, please  get in touch  to let us know.

1. Menswear Style

A fashionable favourite for all seasons is Menswear Style, which stays at the top of the men’s fashion blog ranking for another year. Since being launched by Craig Landale in April 2012, the blog has grown into an influential and award-winning digital space for sartorial tips and style. Going beyond the wardrobe, the Menswear Style team of expertly-clothed experts covers runway collections, breaking fashion news, well-known labels and up-and-coming designers. You’ll also find grooming and lifestyle features and rateable inspiration in the Street Style gallery.

Menswear Style

Permanent Style

2. Permanent Style

While much has gone out of fashion since 2007, Simon Crompton’s Permanent Style (which launched that year) is still in style, and goes up a place in our ranking. Having since launched his own clothing line, Simon uses his experience as a journalist, author and all-round fashion-forward fella to school his readers in what’s worth wearing when it comes to ‘bespoke, craft and luxury’. Picks for black tie events, casual clothing, handkerchiefs and scarves sit with sections on building your wardrobe and even lockdown looks. Also useful – the blog’s rundown on how to wear a cream jacket (our tip: don’t eat spaghetti).

3. Ape To Gentleman

Staying in our top three is the online evolution of traditional men’s magazines, Ape To Gentleman. Created in 2009 by Chris Beastall, this blog dedicates itself to ‘timeless yet contemporary style, intelligent living and value’. Grooming and Hair join the Style section, helping readers stay on top of trends from top to toe. Put your best foot forward with luxury shoe choices, assemble the best bracelet brands and catch up on a brief history of the ol’ OCBD. That’s ‘Oxford Cloth Button-Down’, if you aren’t yet fully tooled-up on your timeless essential wardrobe staples – luckily, Ape To Gentleman is here to help with that.

Ape To Gentleman

Grey Fox

4. Grey Fox

Style can be timeless and should be ageless. Created by David Evans, Grey Fox focuses on fashion for men over 40, a huge age-bracket often ignored by fashion brands and magazines alike. Despite covering over-40 men’s style, the blog is read by all genders across all ages, and has led David to become a leading menswear influencer, appearing in publications like FT’s How To Spend It magazine and The Guardian. British-made style is a focus for the blog, as well as inspirational fits, accessories and grooming. Curious about the people behind the designs? You can catch up with them in the People section.

5. Clothes Make The Man

Calling all ‘ordinary’ men: Clothes Make The Man is the one for you. Created by Anthony McGrath, this blog is for men who want advice on fashion and style without being befuddled by big names and labels. ‘When we say ordinary man, we don’t mean this in a derogatory manner, no siree’ – in fact, CMTM aims to be an ‘extraordinary blog for the modern man’, taking Mark Twain’s ‘Naked people have little or no influence on society’ to heart. From Primark to Prada, the team aim to inform like ‘any good mate’. This includes how to style your moustache, the art of shaving and how to iron shirts properly – because working from home doesn’t have to mean pyjama bottoms and a stained t-shirt.

Clothes Make The Man

Michael 84

6. Michael 84

Michael 84 was born in 2008, and comes from Newcastle-based fashion blogger Michael Adams. Sharing his passion, opinions and advice on style, clothing, grooming and more, Michael showcases what he knows best – smart casual. No outlandish or unwearable outfits here, as the blogger actually wears the clothes he writes about, from high street clothing to high-end designer brands. Check out what’s new in his wardrobe, the best white trainers for minimalist looks, capsule clothing collections on the way and handy help for dressing to impress: ‘if you’re looking to dress better, there’s something for you here’.

7. Carl Thompson

This eponymous blog was started straight after the foundation of Carl’s menswear label Hawkins and Shepherd in 2013, and shares men’s fashion, grooming and lifestyle content. While it’s been hard to take a trip to the highstreet (or places higher-end) recently to try on new clothes and put outfits together that suit, Carl Thompson is helping readers wear what’s right for them in style guides featuring smart casual and formal attire for 2020. As the seasons change, the blog has your back with transitional wardrobes and investment tailoring – particularly useful as fast fashion falls out of favour.

Man About Town

8. Man About Town

About town, or mainly at home on online video chat right now, Charlie Irons aims to help out the ‘everyday guy’ with grooming tips and how tos on what to wear. Seeing himself as a ‘typical’ person still learning when it comes to grooming and fashion, this man about town seeks to share his experiences and lessons with his readers. As the weather heats up, take notes on the top warm weather staples, how to court the summer tennis trend, buying the best boat shoes, as well as face masks, moisturisers and scents that will stand the test of time, post-lockdown and beyond.

9. The Everyday Man

Joining our ranking of rakish men’s fashion blogs this year is The Everyday Man, established in 2012 to bring expert insight into the fashion world. Features on the big international fashion brands are shared alongside emerging menswear labels and designers. Restocking your outfit selection is easy with summer-at-home fits, exclusive releases, brand collaborations, what’s being restocked and even washable face masks that won’t make you blush or grimace when leaving the house wearing them.

The Everyday Man

Flush the Fashion

10. Flush the Fashion

Flush with men’s fashion trends is Flush the Fashion, the blog for Flush Magazine and online home for what’s stylish when it comes to what to wear, watch, eat and listen to. With summer finally here (or did it arrive quickly – your lockdown mileage may vary on that), the blog has the big trends for the season. But if you’re already looking ahead to the Autumn when the leaves change colour and knits get thicker, what to expect in fall fashion is covered. A heads-up so you’re flush with knowledge – jewel tones and knitwear are what to invest in. And are much more wearable than the back-in-fashion, apparently, socks with sandals. In the words of the Flush the Fashion team, ‘how the heck did that happen?’

1. Rock My Wedding

Still sitting pretty a-top the top-10-UK-wedding-blogs cake is Charlotte O’Shea’s Rock My Wedding, which started as its blogger planned her own nuptials and has since expanded to become a whole brand. Its podcast boasts over 100,000 downloads, the book ‘Your Day Your Way’ is on its fourth edition and over 1.3 million people follow Rock My Wedding across social media. This blog’s handpicked directory of industry suppliers – The List – helps couples across the globe to plan their big day and the DIY and Wedding Ideas sections are there for those who want how-tos on handling their dream wedding.

Rock My Wedding

Love My Dress

2. Love My Dress

The main focus for Annabel Beeforth and her team at Love My Dress is storytelling and community building, sharing beautiful wedding stories and supporting businesses in the industry, from tiny back-bedroom startups to international brands. With a Facebook community of 5k+ planning brides – with other groups for these members to move into once they are married – Love My Dress covers the important issues impacting its readers, including diversity and inclusivity in the wedding industry, and encourages further thought on the big topics in its Wedding Talk section. And while COVID-19 continues to affect both the industry and those waiting to wed, its #WhatAboutWeddings campaign is gaining traction across social and mainstream media.

3. Rock n Roll Bride

While white, off-white, cream and pearl are classic choices for weddings, brides and grooms after something alternative can find what they’re looking for from the rest of the colour spectrum at Rock N Roll Bride. Created by Kat Williams in 2007, this blog aims to be ‘the ultimate guide for alternative brides’. Recent theme ideas for weddings include spring-time pastels with a punk rock edge, Shetland unicorns and food trucks, and The Nightmare Before Christmas (featuring lots of purple and skulls). For couples who are ‘simply meant to be’, weddings don’t have to be simply cream-coloured events anymore.

4. Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Born out of her own wedding planning, Louise Baltruschat Hollis created Whimsical Wonderland Weddings in April 2010. Now with a team of experts helping to dispense wedding whimsy, this blog doesn’t feature the fantastical and out-of-budget, but ‘real weddings’ – Alternative, Budget, Classic, Destination, DIY, Outdoor, Pretty, Rustic, Vintage, Modern and more. Aiming to be friendly, welcoming and inclusive, the WWW team shares stories from real weddings and connects suppliers with engaged couples making plans. And while wildest dream weddings are on hold, there are also tips for celebrating love connections during lockdown.

5. Boho Weddings

Award-winning wedding planner Kelly Hood launched this boho wedding blog and directory back in 2007. All about all things boho, from lovely luxury to rustic romance, this blog hopes to help couples reflect their personality throughout their ceremony – ‘weddings should be about you – it’s all about individuality. Create the wedding you want, not the wedding you’re told to have!’. Kelly’s focus on ‘fun inspirational and informative’ content has led her to writing for magazines like Glamour, Wedding Ideas and Perfect Weddings as well as the Huffington Post. Believing that all weddings are amazing, Kelly just ‘loves seeing people in love’ – go check out ideas from her and her team of contributors that you’ll love.

6. Brides Up North

Multitalented Julia Braime has been a fashion journalist, lawyer and now bridal blogger, and stays in our top ten UK wedding blog ranking for another year. Noticing a lack of Northern-focused content in the glossy bridal magazines available on newsagent shelves, Julia moved from fashion and law into wedding blogging, hoping to big-up Northern-based suppliers and venues for couples living in the area, or planning to get married there. Julia has also mastered multiple formats for sharing ‘aspirational, accessible and inclusive’ wedding ideas, editing her own glossy bridal magazine, Unveiled.

7. The English Wedding Blog

If you’re England-based and a jet-setting destination wedding isn’t popular (or possible) with your intended guest list, Claire Gould’s blog is where to journey online for English and UK weddings and suppliers. There’s a lot of variety to be found within the English isle, which you’ll see in this blog’s dedicated sections to different kinds of ceremonies – classic/timeless, boho/whimsical, alternative, outdoor, festival, creative and DIY, chic and modern, and black tie and formal. And, well, if further afield is still ideally where you’d like to be when getting hitched, you can also check out the destination weddings and elopement sections.

8. B.LOVED

Still beloved by its readers is B.LOVED, which has been sharing wedding inspo since 2011. Now also sharing lifestyle content, with a team of contributors, this blog aims to highlight the ‘luxe & lovely’, whether sparkling dusty blue wedding inspiration in Amsterdam, hand-painted wedding stationery, or fruits and floral weddings down in Kent.

9. Wedding Sparrow

Inspired by organic, tangible, artisanal, natural and light wedding ideas, Sara Russell’s Wedding Sparrow covers all aspects that go into creating a dream wedding – getting engaged, choosing wedding vendors, which style to settle on for the big day, and honeymoons and travel. While this started as a fun project for Sara in 2011, she has since discovered a genuine love for the sector and passion for helping couples create something different and special to them. ‘I’m here to champion authentic, inspirational weddings,’ says Sara, so if you’ve got a date saved, go submit your ideas, create and chat.

10. Bespoke Bride

After taking a break from blogging during lockdown, the team behind Bespoke Bride are back with bespoke bridal blogging, and back in our UK top ten. 2011 was a bountiful year for beautiful wedding blogs – pals Emily Pettiford and Jessica Turley also launched then, and have since won an award from Cosmopolitan for ‘Best for Bridal’ and have featured in Marie Claire. As well as DIY how-tos for party favours, gifts and flower arrangements, this blog has helpful tips for planning, travel guides, ideas for anniversaries, and even an online shop for hen party games, photo booth props, printables and stickers. While the lockdown has caused real challenges for the industry, and couples ready to start their lives together, we’re glad Bespoke Brides has stuck around.

1. The Anfield Wrap

Ahead on points in the UK football blog ranking is The Anfield Wrap, AKA TAW, which covers Liverpool FC for its legion of supporters. While going to actual matches is off limits for fans right now, they can still congregate here for everything to do with the club, in blog, podcast and video format. From its small start in 2011, TAW now attracts a huge audience to the site and across its social media channels. Who needs to be sitting in the stands when all the Liverpool FC-related gossip, news and updates as well as opinion, reaction and exclusive interviews are right here online?

2. CaughtOffside

Don’t be caught offside without the latest news of what’s happening on the UK football scene – CaughtOffside claims to be the most popular independent football blog in the world, so is a safe bet for finding facts on the current state of the sport. As shown in the multicoloured garland of football shirts decorating the front page, all teams get equal love on this blog – click on the shirt of your team for the latest on its fortunes (Manchester City, Brighton and Hove Albion, Watford FC and more). And if you also like to keep up on the lives of footballers’ wives, there’s a dedicated (and drama-filled) WAGs section.

3. The Republik of Mancunia

If you’re a Red Devils fan, no doubt you’ve already declared allegiance to The Republik of Mancunia. Since 2006, blogger Scott – a ‘season-ticket holding Mancunian, who loves his team, and isn’t ashamed’ – has sought to show a more optimistic side to football fandom (what he calls wearing his ‘red-tinted specs’). Transfer news and statistics – aimed to be as realistic and evidence-based as possible – cover what’s happening on the pitch, and the forum is where to join fellow fans for optimistic chat, even when the team aren’t out and scoring.

4. Daily Cannon

Still firing on all cylinders is Daily Cannon, which secures the last Champions League spot at number four. Launched in 2008 by Lee Hurley, and covering everything Arsenal (who you will be seeing more of later in the ranking), long reads are posted alongside shorter gossip pieces on transfers and updates on the club and its players. And when we say ‘everything Arsenal’, it’s true – hover over the Arsenal channel and you’ll find Arsenal Injuries, Arsenal Loan Watch, Arsenal History, Arsenal Opinion and even Arsenal Wallpaper.

5. The Spurs Web

Retaining its spot in the Europa League on this line up is The Spurs Web, whose team has been covering the fortunes of Tottenham Hotspur since way back in 1996, which you may remember as an important year for football. No, not just because of this blog’s launch (but also that). Articles focus on match analysis, opinion pieces on the Europa League, and what it takes to win (advice the England team could have used back in 1996 – not that we’re living in the past). The Spurs Web aims to snag readers with what it calls ‘refreshingly honest, topical, and entertaining coverage’ of the football club, which it supports through thick and thin. The team also welcome tips and suggestions for stories, so get in touch if reading that has… spurred… you on (sorry).

6. JustArsenal.com

On the ball with more news from Arsenal FC is JustArsenal.com, whose team reports on news from the club, new transfers, match reports and statistics. Gunners fans can also read up on any rumours currently doing the rounds, watch videos from previous matches and check out previews for what’s coming up. And for those who like to go deeper, this blog’s writers like to consider the big questions: ‘Who would you choose in Arsenal’s Battle of the Keepers?’, ‘Who should we keep or sell?’ and ‘What’s going on with Arteta’s substitutions?’ We don’t have the answers – go check out the team’s takes.

7. Never Mind the B*llocks

Part of also-magnificently-monikered The Fighting Cock, the Never Mind the B*llocks blog is new to the top ten football ranking this year. Part of a podcast, fanzine and website devoted to Tottenham Hotspur FC that’s been going since 2011, the blog posts pieces from a team of writers with things to share about the sport and their favourite team. A recent take from the writers: ‘What is wrong with me? It’s like I can’t help it. Spurs are a devastating drug, and I’m a full-blown addict’. For those who feel the same, Never Mind the B*llocks is where to go for a football-fix.

8. The Transfer Tavern

Returning back to the subject of the sport at large, our next top ten blog is Taylor Williams’ The Transfer Tavern. The ‘one stop shop’ for transfer rumours, news and breaking headlines helpfully splits its gossip on who is going where by team, and encourages its readers to ‘pull up a bar stool’ and join informal conversations online just like those they’d have at the pub. Here it is ‘always happy hour’, though red cards can be raised if fan debate gets too rowdy. Just want the facts? Read up on Fixtures & Results and see what’s happening in the League Table.

9. The Tomkins Times

Taking the same tactical position as last year’s ranking is The Tomkins Times, focusing on Liverpool FC and originally created by author Paul Tomkins. Previously bigged-up by The Independent on Sunday as ‘perhaps the most intelligent guide to LFC available on the internet’, The Tomkins Times requires subscription for much of its content, which provides fans with analysis from its current roster of writers particularly passionate about the football team. And while the sport has been vastly changed during the current pandemic, there’s also a Coronavirus/COVID-19 Discussion Page under the Debate section.

10. West Ham Till I Die

And finishing our top ten is a blog from a familiar face to the Vuelio blog rankings – Iain Dale’s West Ham Till I Die. Well-known for his political commentary on radio and in print, here Iain focuses instead on news from West Ham Football Club. Match reports from West Ham games, and columns from regular writers like ‘HamburgHammer’ and ‘Goatygav’ join Iain’s posts on the team as well as a nifty section on the squad, outlining the key stats for each West Ham player. Did you know that Pablo Zabaleta is 178cm, and had made 37 appearances as of May 2018? Us neither – go find extra stats if you’re dying for more from the Hammers.

Vuelio uses a proprietary algorithm to create these rankings, based on topic-related content in blogs on its system – you can read more about the process here. Our research team actively seeks out new blogs and bloggers for inclusion, but if you think we’ve missed someone, please get in touch to let us know.

1. Red Ted Art

Still red hot when it comes to getting crafty is Maggy Woodley’s Red Ted Art. This blog for beginners shares ‘cute and easy crafts for kids’ that are promised to be a) ‘do-able’ b) made from simple materials and c) perfect for helping build both skills and confidence. With a selection of books also under her belt, Maggy has the makings for many fun family afternoons with pots of glitter, poster paints and spare paper to hand. Find her most popular posts under the ‘START HERE’ section for how to make a volcano, paper clay or princess paper dolls in 3D, or watch along with her YouTube playlist for crafters aged 8-12.

2. Kids Craft Room

Bringing ‘creative fun for everyone’ is Emma Smith at the Kids Craft Room. Since 2012, primary school teacher Emma has been sharing art and craft ideas with an aim to inspire children to get creating (and boost their self-esteem and self-expression while doing so). Believing there is no right or wrong way when it comes to crafts, an explorative process is what this blogger promotes. That means printable plans for pasta and handprint pineapple art, paper bag lions, potato printing paintings and getting messy with sensory play for what Emma calls a ‘more hands-on free-range childhood’ filled with fun.

3. Mum In The Madhouse

We take another trip to the Madhouse, which stays in the top ten for UK craft blogs (AND features in our top ten UK mummy blogs ranking). Multitasking comes naturally to the Mum in this Madhouse Jen Walshaw, even when things are mad-busy – her ideas for family time with kids don’t involve staring at screens or Switch Lites, but instead making memories up the table with sellotape, pipe cleaners and toilet rolls, or in the kitchen for more edible concoctions. And Jen’s ideas are inexpensive – check out the printable 2020 time capsule, downloadable colouring sheets and recipes for quick meals, too.

4. The Gingerbread House

Crafts for kids and adults are being cooked up over at The Gingerbread House by blogger Jenny Kearney, who has been posting ideas for all age groups since 2005. For parents, the Back to School section is bound to be coming in useful soon, and for grown-ups who want to get crafting themselves, the Crafts For Adults channel has plenty of projects. Die cutting, patch work and quilting, sewing projects and paper cut art are regular features, alongside Jenny’s monthly attempts at the Mollie Makes magazine front cover gift. And if that’s not quite enough to keep you busy, Jenny also shares which (often craft-related) books she’s reading right now.

5. Crafts on Sea

Sailing smoothly back into the ranking for another year is Kate Williams with Crafts on Sea. Having featured in publications including The Sunday Mirror, The Daily Telegraph, and HuffPost, Kate has also previously found herself at Downing Street for discussions with Mumsnet and Railway Children. Filled with useful things, Crafts on Sea splits its ideas by age, with creativity for kids and toddlers. Activities for two-year-olds is one of this blogger’s favourite posts, as well as 40 things her daughter could eat before she got teeth. Our fave: the Captain America paper plate shield (which is good for every age).

6. Rainy Day Mum

Another familiar face from both past craft blog top tens and mummy blog rankings is Cerys Parker of Rainy Day Mum. Starting with a goal to complete at least one activity with her toddler each day, the blog has since grown and is now filled with enough ideas for many, many rainy (and sunny) days to come. Crafting with Cerys doesn’t just involve paper and glue – there are nursery rhymes and songs to follow along with, ideas for cooking, reading, and summer bucket lists to work through, for babies, toddlers and pre-school children.

7. Heart Handmade UK

And here is where we move beyond Beginner-level crafting and towards Expert… If you heart all things handmade, Claire Donovan of Heart Handmade UK has plenty of practical projects to partake in. Established in 2010, this blog has craft ideas, expert guides, home décor tips and ‘plan & print’ resources for bullet journaling, mastering calligraphy and much more. Describing herself as a ‘chronically ill, disabled blogger’ and this website as her ‘Happy Haven’, Claire is an advocate for happy creative lives, and crafting as a tool for helping with mental health. A recent idea for keeping your surroundings bright during lockdown – templates for paper flowers (perfection).

8. Folksy Blog

Folks: modern British craft is something to be proud of, and the people behind Folksy are here to big-up designers and makers across the UK. Setting out their raison d’etre on the blog, the folksy team believe in craft skills, strength in numbers for reaching bigger audiences, the support of cottage industries, the merits of work standing for itself and ‘David, not Goliath’. For those who have expert painting, crochet, knitting, embroidery, wood/metal work or pottery skills and are busy making all things beautiful, the Folksy blog is where you can share what you do with others, and pick up advice for finding your audience.

9. Look At What I Made

Look at what blogger Dedri Uys has made – a top ten craft blog for her crocheting and baking success stories. Now also featuring help from friends Jane and Jenni, Look At What I Made covers all things yarn (and sometimes, cake). ‘What started out as an ‘anything-I-can-make-or-bake-or-fake’ blog ten years ago has turned into a full-on crochet fest,’ says Dedri, who sees the art of crochet as much more than a craft, but a ‘life-saving panacea’ for medication-free therapy and meditation. Having published and collaborated on numerous books on the subject, Dedri definitely knows how to hook happily – grab some wool and join her.

10. Barbara Gray Blog

Founder of Claritystamps and curator of quality stencils and designs, Barbara Gray blogs to share her thoughts on new card products she’s trying out, updates on how her current projects are going and ideas for things you can try crafting yourself. Always ready with a warm welcome for her fellow crafty card and art makers, Barbara is well-loved and regarded within the crafting community, who are frequently invited to (digitally) take a walk in her garden, ruminate on what’s worth having a go at and take part in regular giveaways. If you’re into crafting and haven’t discovered Barbara’s blog yet, give it a go.

1. Jane’s Patisserie

Rising to the top of the UK baking blogs is Jane’s Patisserie, Jane Dunn’s blog for homemade snacks including cupcakes, cookies, traybakes and tarts. ‘My goal is to give you the fun, laughter, confidence and knowledge to bake and cook whatever you fancy,’ says Jane, who probably has the recipe for whatever you’re in the mood for. Want something sweet but good for you? There’s her recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies. Hungry for something more extravagant? The jammie dodger blondies or NYC red velvet cookies might be more your thing. Either way, you’re sure to find something suitably sweet to fill your plate.

Becky Excell

2. Becky Excell

Still a star baker in our top three is London/Essex-based food blogger, food photographer and recipe creator Becky Excell. Going gluten-free doesn’t have to mean going sticky toffee loaf or millionaire’s cornflake bar free – Becky has the makings for gluten free versions of both, and much more besides. This blogger thought she’d never eat nice food again after a doctor’s appointment back in 2013 confirmed her relationship with gluten was over. But Becky believed in life after gluten-filled flour and schooled up on cake and cookie creations that taste just as good as the originals.

3. The Little Blog of Vegan

When you’re all about plant-based eating but the supermarket’s dedicated aisle is low on snacks right now, plant-based baking is your next step. But keeping vegan treats packed with the protein, iron, zinc, calcium and vitamins A, D and B12 that vegan diets often lack, especially when you want to keep things tasty, can be tough… unless you’ve been checking out Holly Jade’s tips over on The Little Blog of Vegan. Whichever meal you’re planning next, Holly has a recipe for you. Lunch? Easy vegan sausage rolls. Dinner? Jackfruit quiche. And try her strawberry shortcake ice cream bars recipe if you’ve still got room for dessert (there’s always room for dessert).

The Baking Explorer

4. The Baking Explorer

If you’re on a hunt for more cakes, bakes, veggie eats and vegan treats, Kat Buckley’s The Baking Explorer has been searching far and wide for the very best recipes that home kitchens can produce since August 2012. ‘I aim to bring you achievable bakes that you can see yourself producing in your kitchen, too,’ says Kat. ‘I like things to look good, but also look fun and homemade.’ While the blog originally included meat and dairy options, Kat switched to 100% vegetarian (with lots of vegan-friendly recipes, too) in 2015, so no gelatine, lard or suet here – just cruelty-free cooking and bountiful bakes.

5. Domestic Gothess

While fairy cakes aren’t particularly goth, baking doesn’t always have to be light, fluffy and pastel-coloured. Hannah Hossack-Lodge is the Birmingham-based ‘professional blogger, aspiring food photographer, cake fanatic and goth’ behind Domestic Gothess, here to prove that you don’t need a long list of ‘weird’ ingredients to make something delicious. ‘If you want to make delicious, easy vegan cakes, cookies, pies, bread, desserts and more then you are in the right place,’ says Hannah, who invites her readers in to take notes on the latest recipes filed within the blog’s Recipe Index. What biscuits (AND cakes, AND cookies) they make…

Patisserie Makes Perfect

6. Patisserie Makes Perfect

If you love fancy patisserie, but watching the demands of Cherish and Benoit on ‘Bake Off: The Professionals’ have intimidated you out of attempting your own Tarte Chiboust Vallée d’Auge or pièce montée, take some encouragement from Patisserie Makes Perfect’s Angela Field. Her mastering of French pastry didn’t come easy, but practice has made perfect when it comes to blogging about baking. Regularly sharing recipes on the fancier side, Angela makes them achievable for her readers with clear advice and encouragement – ‘hopefully my experiences show that anyone can create patisserie and viennoiserie in their own home’.

7. Sandhya’s Kitchen

Another kitchen we’d love to be invited to is that of Sandhya Hariharan – ‘a Londoner by choice, South Indian by birth, with an upbringing in Mumbai’. For now, this blog will definitely do – recipes shared include classics collected over the years from family and friends as well as traditional bakes. Luckily, ‘classic’ doesn’t have to mean difficult or labour-intensive – Sandhya loves sharing ‘easy recipes that can be stirred up in minutes’. Find something quick under the Instant Pot and Airfryer Recipes sections, or break things down by meal in the Recipe Index. Even kneading isn’t needed – check out her recipe for instant pot no knead bread.

Sandhya's Kitchen

Supergolden Bakes

8. Supergolden Bakes

‘If you are looking for easy sweet and savoury recipes that are packed with flavour, you have come to the right place!’ Supergolden Bakes’ super baking blogger is London-based Lucy Parissi, a recipe developer, food photographer and author. Having learned how important food is to a happy and healthy life during her childhood in Greece, Lucy seeks to share good food, fine drinks and good company, too. This blog is all about unfussy but flavourful food, with inspiration taken from all over the world. You don’t have to go far, though – on the homepage now are recipes for light brioche burger buns and biscoff chocolate biscuit cake, so go and get stuck in.

9. Katie Cakes

Newcastle-upon-Tyne’s Katie Deacon is the professional baker behind the Pet Lamb Patisserie cupcake shop and blogger of Katie Cakes. Katie loves to eat, more than anything else in the world, which makes her skills in baking really helpful (for the rest of us who love to eat, too). At Katie Cakes you’ll find recipes as well as restaurant reviews and a bit of lifestyle content. What will make any lifestyle easier – her recipes for ‘no bake Battenberg cheesecake’ and ‘chocolate mayonnaise cake’. And the cookie dough stuffed cupcakes. Probably the banoffee brownies, also.

Katie Cakes

The Loopy Whisk

10. The Loopy Whisk

If this has all made you very hungry indeed, and you’re looking for someone ‘to help, to guide, to inspire’ you to pick up your whisk and get baking, may we introduce Katarina of The Loopy Whisk. Though, if you’re au fait with our previous rankings, you’ll already know this blogger well. Since its launch in 2016, The Loopy Whisk has been sharing ‘free-from’ ideas and recipes with its fans. Food has always been an important part of blogger Katarina’s life, from early days of offering to lick the spoon, to becoming one of our top ten baking bloggers in the UK. Dairy free, nut free, paleo, vegan and ‘I just want to try those vegan matcha thumbprint cookies, now please’ – whatever diet you’re on, Kat has plenty of options for you.
